Skerne park 6-1 Gainford

The lads took to cup action this last Sunday and delivered in devastating fashion

Opening few minutes saw Phil Bowen play a smart 1-2 with Kieran Burlinson before unleashing a quality through ball for Scott Hansom to ghost in on and loft over the keeper.

We didn’t have long to wait for the second either when another clever ball from Phil saw a wickedly improvised finish from Glenn Hendrix clip the bar into the top corner 2-0

The first half was then us showing some composure and experience and seeing the half out without many issues.

Second half started with Gainford expectedly better and pushed us until 3 quick devastating goals left them buried

The first a solo run from left back beating several men and smashing home from Mike Wharton

The second a similar style goal from Shaun McGinty though with arguably more grit and determination! A really deserved first goal for the club

Then almost immediately after that Mo stole the ball in midfield drove at the heart of the defence and slotted home to put the game beyond doubt!

Changed were made at this point and the game lost pace,

Didn’t stop Mike wacking in a free kick tho, or the inevitable clean sheet destroyer from Gainford.

The lads however now move onto the next round, and our focus shifts back to the league and Spartans.

Skerne park 2-3 Staindrop

Sunday saw our first game in division one and it started incredibly well when a fantastic ball from Mike Wharton found Scott Hansom who slipped it past the keeper

Staindrop then equalised with one of them goals you only really see at our level when a shot from distance appeared to bounce off moon like craters before deceiving Phil in goal

Then came the moment that really span the game straight red card for debutant Adam Spence after a coming together just outside the box, Staindrop then scored the resulting free kick!

Next Staindrop add a third through a great run from their midfielder who got a shot away only to be brilliantly saved by Phil….. unfortunately the save cannoned straight back off the falling attacker into the net 3-1

Useless our mental strength in these situations is questionable and we’d collapse but not on this day the last battled incredibly and even grabbed another goal when Scott crossed brilliant for Glenn Hendrix who rose highest to head back across goal

There’s a saying in football that you sometimes learn more in defeat

Management learned that this team has the mental fortitude to quickly put this one behind us
