8-12 girls 💕

Last week we done a paint your friend challenge, which it encouraged conversations around favourite colours & items to add to their canvases 🎨

Had good group discussion on the phone ban in school and how it will impact them when it comes in place 📱🚫

Also, played volleyball, splat & hot potato!

🏆 A win for girls wellbeing, friendship & community ❤️

We are delighted that YMCA Edinburgh & Pilmeny Development Project’s Girls Wellbeing Groups have won the Community Group Award at the North Edinburgh Community Awards.

Our groups offer girls a welcoming space to be themselves, try new things and build supportive friendships. Through shared activities and trusted relationships, we help girls improve their wellbeing, grow in confidence and feel more connected to others.

Growing up as a girl can mean navigating many pressures such as appearance, social media and expectations over who you should be and how you should act. Having a space for girls to feel listened to, valued and supportive matters.

The award celebrates the girls who make the groups their own and the staff and volunteers who support them each week. All involved are proud of what we have built together and the long-standing partnerships.

A big thanks to Harbour Homes for this recognition and to our funders The City of Edinburgh Council KFC Youth Foundation Scottish Children's Lottery & Leith Benevolent Fund. Your vital support makes the work happen.

Join us in celebrating these brilliant girls and everyone involved 🎉

YMCA Edinburgh now have one of John's Bleed Kits in our centre ❤️

A huge thanks to Lisa for taking the time to train some of the staff in how to use the kits. We have it right next to our door, should we need to use it.

Thank you to The Junction for inviting us along to join you 🤝🏻💜

12+ girls group x Tasty Tales 🥣

Fantastic intergenerational session this week, huge thanks to 3 of the women volunteers from Pilmeny who came along with Mrs Mash 👩🏻‍🍳
Worked in pairs to make Edinburgh Community food ‘tomato and bean soup’ 🍅🥣

Input of a great story of winter warmers from Mrs Mash & then we all created a post card for the tasty tales exhibition on our favourite winter food 🍜🥰

What can help a young person choose a different path?

On the day of the Knife Angel closing ceremony, our Friday Night Lights group welcomed Donald from the VOW programme. Drawing on his own lived experience, he led an honest discussion about crime, its consequences and the choices young people face.

Conversations like this help create a space for young people to ask questions, hear different perspectives and think about the future they want for themselves. That’s part of what Friday Night Lights is for: a welcoming place to connect, build trust and make informed choices.

Thank you to Donald for spending time with the group, sharing your story and the important work you do across Scotland.
Thanks to Places for People for their work helping coordinate activities across the month.
