The quality of Lightcliffe Cricket Club’s grounds has been highlighted by the Bradford Premier League who have ranked this season’s pitches as the best in Division 1 and the second best among all the 36 in the top three leagues.

For every 1st XI fixture, the neutral umpires appointed by the League mark the pitch against a series of criteria including evenness of bounce, seam movement, carry, turn and the outfield.

Despite the hot and dry weather over the summer presenting huge issues for grounds teams, Lightcliffe’s Till Carr Lane home not only significantly outperformed the average but improved on last year’s already high scores.

It is a huge credit to the grounds team recognised widely as some of the best around – thank you to Chris, Rodney, James, Roger and all the team.

Everyone at Lightcliffe Cricket Club would like to send their condolences to the family of Rosie Hydes (formerly Tesseyman), a true stalwart of the Club in the 80s and 90s.

Her two sons, Richard and Daniel, were junior cricketers turned senior Villagers, and she was a familiar face and friend to many over many years.

She died last week and our thoughts are with her loved ones at this sad time.

We wanted to say a huge thank you to all our Match Day Sponsors through the 2026 season.

Three Villagers have represented Yorkshire Over 50s in an international match in Dublin today which was won by the White Rose county.

Fresh from winning the Grey Fox Trophy Plate on Sunday, Rob Burton & James Horne, plus Richard Nichols – all former 1st XI Lightcliffe Captains – were part of the team to take on Ireland Over 50s at Merrion CC.

After Yorkshire made 147/8 from their 25 overs, Villagers Rob and James opened the bowling for the visitors and their miserly spell – 2-16 from 5 for Rob, 1-10 from 5 for James – meant the hosts were always behind the rate.

They ultimately fell 41 runs short when Richard took the final two wickets in the 23rd over.

Congratulations to our three Lightcliffe players, past and present, and to all the Yorkshire team 💪

It’s Friday – our Junior Training night. But another Junior Season at Lightcliffe Cricket Club has come to an end. And what a year it’s been.

Over the course of 19 weeks…

🏏 110 young people have represented Lightcliffe
🏏 Together, they played 135 matches across U9s to U18s
🏏 We competed in 13 leagues – winning the U11 Development League and being runners up in another 3
🏏 13 Cup competitions were entered – reaching the final of 6 and winning 4
🏏 Our girls-only Lightcliffe Roses had weeks of training and their first game

Most importantly though, they learned new skills, developed friendships and grew together as teams

None of this would be possible without our amazing junior coaches – all of them volunteers, none of them ever giving anything less than 100% to our young Villagers.

So a huge thank you to Ajay Dasari, Alex Stead, Alex Tait, Andy Walker, Bruce Lunn, Christine Cooper, Craig Chew, Dave Nicholls, Gary Lewsley, Gaz Landin, Gaz Standeven, Hannah Harding, James Brearley, James Ellerby, James Horne, Jason Carroll, Luke Simpson, Neil Wood, Nick Langhorn, Paul Grace, Rhys Jowett & Rob Rose.

Thank you also to the team who support them – our assistants, scorers, match report writers and clubhouse bar & tearoom helpers, plus our grounds staff who produce so many wickets to allow us to host 50 junior games at Till Carr Lane.

2026 is over. The countdown to 2027 begins. Bring it on 💪

It’s been quite the couple of days for former Villager Ben Cliff who has recorded Yorkshire’s best bowling figures in a first-class innings this century at Headingley.

Ben, who played at Lightcliffe in 2019, secured 8 wickets for just 76 in the County Championship game against Somerset.

We gathered our players for a photo with all three trophies at our Presentation Night on Friday:
