Medals don't stop coming to Luso! Last weekend in London, a bunch of Luso fencers went to the Leon Paul Centre to take part in the Junior series. On Saturday, supported by coach Antonio, Verena, Danaya and Evie fenced in the U14 Women's epee. Good performance from Verena who, while recovering from a cold, went on to win the bronze ๐Ÿฅ‰ An interesting semi-final showed Verena what the next actions to work on will be. Jessica fenced well, winning multiple matches and showing a better understanding of the game that many adversaries. Danaya and Evie did well, won a few matches each, and proved once again that with some serious training, they can be even better. On Sunday, coach James led Marvin to a silver medal in the U10 boys' epee ๐Ÿฅˆ and Sereena to a gold medal in the U10 girls' epee! ๐Ÿฅ‡ Ezra took part in the U10 and showed good control of the matches, his abilities improving every day. Bridget, in the U12 girls' epee, finished 6th, a decent performance from this young fencers who is working really hard to acquire new skills and techniques. Last event of these successful few weeks, the U17 Men's epee saw Orrick and Carson fighting each other in the final. A score of 15/11 gave Orrick the gold medal!ย Wellย doneย boys! ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ

Good day of fencing last Saturday in Moulton during the 6th event of the Elite Epee Junior Series. The morning started with the boys and girls of the U17. Luca takes home a bronze medal ๐Ÿฅ‰, losing only two matches during the day, one against Timeo (Chelsea), who then won the event. Good performance for Orrick (12th) and Zalan (14th), who both give away only a couple of bouts in the poule round. In the U17 girls, Beth takes the 26th place, in her first competition wearing Luso's colours. Tia struggles a bit to find the right mindset for the day, stopping in the table of 32. Verena and Eliana showed great progress, with a 15th and 14th place in one of their first Cadets events.
The day continued with more precious medals, with Ryan winning the gold ๐Ÿฅ‡ in the U10s Boys and Sereena winning the gold ๐Ÿฅ‡ in the U10s Girls! Well done both! In the U10s Boys, a convincing performance from Ezra showed good progress (9th), while Marvin struggles a bit to find the right actions (8th). In the U12s Girls, Bridget (8th) does not find the right key to read her matches, but we are sure that she will soon show everyone what she is capable of ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป In the U14 Boys, Luca closes his matches losing by just one point, a sign of his improvement and growth in such a competitive environment. Finally, in the U14s Girls, Eliana and Verena make everyone proud with a double medal! They both win all their poules matches and then carry on winning every DE until Eliana ๐Ÿฅ‰ stops in the semi-final. Verena ๐Ÿฅˆ , instead, dominates the semi-final, but then surrenders to Denis (Chelsea) in a very well fought final match! Well done again to both of them! In the same age group, Evie (21st) and Danaya (17th) keep growing and learning lessons that we are sure will help them win more matches in the future!

The last weekend for Luso has been amazing! For the first time ever, we hosted an Olympic gold medallist for three days full of fencing ๐Ÿฅ‡ Erika Kirpu, gold at the 2020 Tokyo games, led staff Kosmas Karakoulis and Vittoria Siletti in a high level workshop that saw atheltes from different clubs spar and learn about the skills needed to become top fencers. Erika, Kosmas, and Vittoria have been fantastic ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ฏ They spent time with each and every fencer at the workshop, showing them new techniques and strategies. We enjoyed working with so much that we are now working together with them towards a residential summer camp in July 2025 ๐ŸŽ‰ Follow our social media to learn more about it in the following weeks!

The South of England got coloured in purple on Sunday, when our U14 and U18 epeeists took part in the British Youth Championships qualifiers in Swindon. Luso's fencers took the event by storm and took home a gold in every single epee event! Carson in the U14 boys did not lose a single bout throughout the day and took home a well deserved gold after a 12 - 5 win in the final against Howell ๐Ÿฅ‡ the same happened in the U14 girls, where Verena did not give away anything to her opponents and won the final with an astonishing 12 - 6 against Careless ๐Ÿฅ‡ Great results from Eliana as well who lost only one bout, the semi-final against her teammate Verena! Well done, Eliana ๐Ÿฅ‰in the U18 boys and girls, Luso proved to be the strongest epee club this year. In the boys' event, Leo approached the final after winning against his teammate Garrick. An all Luso final between Leo and Muaadh got everyone cheering and celebrating, with Leo finally winning the match 15 - 11. On the other side of the hall, the U18 girls also saw a Luso final between Sofia and Abila. Abila, who stepped on the piste after beating her teammate Elizabeth in the semi-final, tried her best, but Sofia experience has once again proven the best. Amazing job from all of them!

Our fencers don't stop amazing us! Yesterday a delegation from Luso took part in the C***s Moor Woods Epee Championship in Birmingham and they did an incredible job in supporting each other.
In the U13 Boys Carson took a bronze medal ๐Ÿฅ‰ the semifinal was the only match he lost all day! In the same age group, Luca fenced well while practising what we worked on at club ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
In the U13 Girls Eliana got a bronze medal as well ๐Ÿฅ‰ unfortunately the quarter finals saw Eliana fence against Verena, who ended the competition in 7th place.
The two clubmates are respectively 2nd and 3rd in the British ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง U14 ranking! A result never achieved before by our fencers, amazing! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐ŸŽ‰

A couple of weeks ago we went to the Elite Epee event in Moulton. A great day of sport for all our young fencers ๐ŸŽ‰
In the U12 Girls Epee, best result for Bridget (6th), followed by Victoria (10th) and Anna (12th) at her very first competition, well done Anna! ๐Ÿ’ฏ
In the U10 Boys Epee Marvin gets an amazing 3rd place after a bit of a mess up during the DE round ๐Ÿฅ‰๐Ÿฅณ first place for Luso's last addition: Ryan ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ˜Ž
Sereena gets a silver medal in the U10 Girls epee, the only match lost during the day! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป๐Ÿฅˆ๐ŸŽŠ
Carson in the U14 Boys epee takes home a good 6th place. A bittersweet result for this young fencer who got seriously penalised by a referee decision on the 11-11.
Another new entry at Luso, Eliana, gets a well-deserved 2nd place in the U14 Girls epee ๐Ÿฅˆ๐ŸŽ‰ she has been fencing extremely well throughout the day and lost the final by just 2 points! In the same competition Verena takes the 8th place and Danaya the 12th.
Finally, in the U17 age group, Orrick makes the top 8 ๐Ÿ˜Ž
The coaches were both very pleased with the results and very proud of all the fencers who decided to compete so early in the season, well done everybody!

Amazing weekend of fencing in Nottingham for Luso! ๐Ÿ’ฏ for the first time in the club's history, one of our fencers made the top 8 in the U17 National Championship ๐Ÿฅณ two days of great and convincing performances from our young athletes that made the coaches proud.

In the U17 Epee, Muaadh takes a brilliant 7th place after showing great maturity and control. Luca improves his previous results by 30 positions, getting a very good 17th place. Zalan and Henry also perform well, although not in their best shape. For the first time at a national event this big, Tia and Eliana do well and get that very valuable experience that will allow them to get great results soon.

In the U20 epee, Bence improves his ranking from last year by 41 positions! A well-deserved 15th placement after knocking out two tough opponents. Leo fences well in his first Junior National and we are sure he will do even better during the season. Sofia and Zoe both do an incredible poule round, not giving much space to the opponents. Zoe, with her 21st place, improves her result by 18 positions. Sofia got a bit unlucky as mid fight for the L16 she struggled with an injury from the previous competition. She ended the competition in the 19th place, an improved from last year.

This weekend, we said goodbye to Bence and Zoe, who will move to uni soon. The whole Luso family wishes them the very best of luck. We have no doubt they will have a brilliant career! ๐Ÿ†๐ŸŽ‰

Good results for Luso at the Southern Region Sneior Championships. In the Men's epee, Garrick won a tough competition against more experienced fencers, and Dylan came 3rd! Well done to Muaadh too who is still working very hard to find his own style ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป Orrick showed great effort as well fencing against much older and experienced fencers.
In the Women's epee, Anna gets a great bronze medal. Tia also took part in the event and got some extremely useful experience ahead of her first season in the Cadet circuit.
In the Men's foil, Dominik and Jasper fence well, but struggle a bit to find the right read for some hard matches.
For the first time Luso has hosted an official competition and we would like to take the time to thank all the volunteers who made this possible. Bence and Harrison did an amazing job in running the competition, showing that all the experience and teachings they got while at Luso have prepared them well to take on such a big responsibility. Thanks to Jeff who took on the role of Welfare Officer and thanks to the amazing families who baked cakes for everyone to enjoy.
