Wednesday: Furze Platt Senior School, theatre.
Saturday: Courthouse Junior School, main hall.

Just for today, both foil and epee sessions will be from 5.30 to 7.30pm at the Furze Platt Leisure Centre. Please note that we must be out by 7.30 today.
Last day of fencing at the British Youth Championships in Sheffield. On the piste for Luso Chris, Bence, Hamza, Harry and Romilly.
Harry, Hamza and Romilly, all at their first National competition, managed to shrug off the emotions and fenced their best. Harry and Hamza brought home a victory each, Romilly instead went forward to win 3 matches. A very tough DE saw Hamza finish 53rd and Harry 59th. A convincing performance for these two young fencers at the beginning of their careers. Romilly got a nice lead in the first period of her DE, but a bit of emotion took away her concentration and she finished in 36th place.
Bence had a challenging poule, but managed to get a nice victory and two very close defeats. A difficult first DE saw Bence winning 15/10 and securing the 32nd place.
Chris, at his last BYC, showed great control in the poule, bringing home 4 victories. After the first, complicated DE, Chris easily won the second DE to finally land the match that would give him access to the last 8. A close match saw the opponent always one point in the lead, with Chris following closely with nice attacks and well prepared actions. A close match that saw Chris stopped just on the edge of the medal zone. A good performance that puts him in 12th place.

A bittersweet 2nd day for Luso at the British Youth Championships 2022 in Sheffield.
Sofia and Isabella opened the day in the U16 girls epee. A good performance put both of them in the mid table at the end of the first round of poule. After a quite easy first DE both of them found a tough opponent for the access to the last 8. Sofia struggled to find the right rhythm with her feet, but she was still able to score some nice hits. Isabella, after a first round that saw the opponent leading by one or two points, found the right gear to bring the match even on the 14/14. An unfortunate miss gave Isa's opponent the match, but she can be very proud because she showed all the skills necessary to be in the top 8 next year.
In the U16 boys epee, Sean, William and Jonathan struggled a bit to find the right key to their matches. Sean, at his first National competition ever, brings home a nice victory in the poule and the knowledge of what he needs to improve. William and Jonathan, after a first victory in their DE round, found some very tough opponents in the second knockout match. A good performance on their side that has the potential to be even better.
Garrick, the best of the boys today, won 5 out of 6 matches in the poule. A bye and an easy first DE have put him against an opponent with his same fencing style. A nail biting match saw Garrick stopping at the door of the last 16.

Final ranking:
Isabella 14th
Sofia 16th
Garrick 18th
William 31st
Sean 57th
Jonathan 61st

Brilliant first day at the British Youth Championships in Sheffield.
On piste today for Luso Henry, Zalan, Luca, Muaadh, Orrick and Leanna.
In the U14 boys epee best results for Henry, who confirms to have the right skills to be in the top 8 of the country ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง
A well deserved 6th place for him ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ
Muaadh, at his very first National experience, brings home 4 victories out of 6 matches in the poule. After winning his first DE, he stops right at the gate for the last 16. 20th place for him ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
Luca and Zalan, with 2 and 3 victories in their poules, fenced well and showed some very good progress. They still have one more year in this age group and we are sure the experience they got today will help them to do even better. 28th place for Luca, 35th for Zalan.
In the U12 Orrick brings home 2 victories in the poule and a nice first DE. In the second knockout round, he is the protagonist of a superb comeback that sees him fighting in the extra minute. A nice 27th place in his first National.
Leanna takes home 2 victories in the poule, building experience for the next competition.

Good luck to all 20 fencers who are competing at the British Youth Championships in Sheffield over the weekend! We are proud of you!
We remind everyone that we are open today as usual, from 5.30 to 9.30 at the Cox Green Leisure Centre. See you there!
What's the best way to end the term? a competition!
Today some of Luso foilists faced friends from Salle Eton Fencing Club and students from John Hampden Grammar School. A great occasion for some of them to use metal foils for the first time and for others to train to get ready for the BYCs. Well done to Laura and Victoria who claimed the first place in their age groups.

On the other side of the hall, our usual team event for over 16 beginners and amateurs saw Kingston Uni, Luso and Salle Eton fencing each other. With a few points of difference between them, the ranking saw Salle Eton winning, with Luso taking the second place.

Now it is time for a break, so we will see you again in two weeks! Enjoy your holidays!
Amazing day for Luso yesterday at the BYC qualifiers in Swindon. U14, U16 and U18 boys and girls stepped on the piste to fight for a spot in the British Youth Championships. Supported by our coaches James, Cat and Antonio, Luso fencers showed their skills and techniques winning medal after medal.
In the U14 boys, after the first round of poules, Henry, Zalan, Luca and Muaadh were all in the top 5 of the competition. Elimination round after elimination round our fencers defended their positions in the ranking, bringing home 3 medals! In the U14 girls, instead, Romilly won all her matches in the poule ranking 1st. After a BYE she fought a tough semifinal that saw her losing by just one point. A well deserved bronze medal for her.
In the U16 boys William, Jonathan, Garrick and Sean all fenced well. William returned to competitions after a few months of stop and he proved that he has what he takes to be in the top 5 of the competition. Jonathan and Garrick fenced well, bringing home many victories and winning their first DE. With the qualification already in their pockets, they both face tough fencers in their second DE, losing by just a few points. 6th and 7th place for them. Sean, at his first competition after years, proved to be on the right path. A bit of regret for a missed match and a very tough second DE put Sean just outside the qualification zone. The U16 girls saw Isabella, Sofia and Isa all fencing in the same poule. They all got some victories to be proud of. The first round of DE saw Isabella moving into the semifinals and Sofia and Ella fighting each other. A close victory for Ella got her a bronze medal. Isabella struggled to find the right key for her semifinal match, but she can be satisfied with a well deserved bronze medal.
In the U18 boys, Bence struggled a bit to find the right mental condition to bring home more victories. His first DE saw him facing a fencer he had already beaten in the past and although Bence scored a few nice hits against him, that was not enough for him to pass the round. On the other side of the hall, Chris made easy game of his poule round and then went on to win two DEs in a row, landing the final against an old friend. A nice to watch match were both fencers showed their abilites saw Chris losing 15/10. Nothing to regret for Chris who showed, for the entire day, the control and confidence of an experienced fencer.
In the U16 girls sabre, Leanna won all her matches in the poule, but one, against the very same girl she will face again in the final. First competition for Leanna and a silver medal the heralds future successes. In the U14 girls sabre, Anna won all her matches, not giving more than three points to each adversary. After an easy semifinal, Anna started the final round with the right gear. After the break, though, she lost a bit of concentration giving her opponent the control of the match who ended with the other girl winning for just one point. A bitter aftertaste for a match that could have been Anna's.
All in all, our coaches are very satisfied with all our fencers and the club can be proud of being the first club in the region for numbers of epee medals.

๐Ÿฅˆ Chris, Anna, Leanna, Henry
๐Ÿฅ‰ Zalan, Muaadh, Isabella, Ella, Romilly
Great day for Luso! In Newbury Orrick, Harry, Hamza and Rory fought for a spot in the British Youth Championships.
After a great poule, Harry got a BYE in the first knockout round, qualifying to the BYC. Same story for Hamza, 2nd after the poule round! Rory fought well during the first round and then went on to fight a tough DE. A very close match saw Rory missing the qualification by just one point. He must be proud though as all his hard work at the training is showing already.
In the U12 boys epee, Orrick won all his poule matches earning the 1st place in the ranking. After an easy semifinal, he was losing 7-2 in the gold medal match. Last two minutes, Orrick changed gear scoring point after point and winning 10/8 with less than 2 seconds left on the clock! Amazing victory for him and a place in the Nationals for him.
Cat, James and Antonio are very proud of all fencers who showed them how hard work and practice can really make the difference.

Half term: there is no fencing this week, we will be back next Wednesday, usual times.
A great start of 2022 for Luso! Henry has been selected for the U14 England Epee team after a short, but very though season in 2021.
Congratulations to Henry for such an important achievement!

We remind you all that we are open every Wednesday afternoon and Saturday morning, always at the Cox Green Leisure Centre. We have courses for everyone aged 7+

Good weekend for Luso and our friends at
On Saturday Laurence, Hamza, Dominik, Kanak, Victoria and Ashley stepped on the pistes of the Newham Sword Foil challenge for the first time. A bit of emotion for the first competition of the season, but all of them fenced with their head in the match and they all listened to coach Antonio.
Best results from Ashley, who won a bronze medal ๐Ÿฅ‰(U14) in her first competition in England. Laurence, in the U10, takes three victories in the poule round and then went on to surprise everyone with a 10/8 victory against a strong opponent! Great day for him! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
In Bath, at the Leon Paul Junior Serie, Garrick, Orrick and Muaadh all took a bronze medal ๐Ÿฅ‰๐Ÿฅณ a convincing performance from the trio!
Finally, in Budapest, coach James supported Isabella, Luso's first fencer to be selected to represent team GB! ๐Ÿคฉ
Penalised by a bad cold, Isabella put a lot of effort into her matches, taking home two victories and a very close defeat in the poule round. She then went on to fight her first DE against Ramuz (SUI). After a great match, as coach James said himself, Isa lost by a handful of points, but she can be proud of her progresses and she will now look forward to the next competition in Austria!

Busy day in Nottingham for Luso during the British Under 17 Championships ๐Ÿ†
In the men's epee Luca, Harrison, Garrick and Henry worked hard to make it through the cut after the poule round.
Luca, at his first Cadet national event, did well, scoring points in every match ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
Harrison and Garrick struggled a bit during the first round, but changed gear during the knockout one. Harrison lost his DE by just one point after fencing brilliantly the whole match. Garrick, after winning his first DE, got a tough match on his hands, but managed to understand his errors and he is ready to work on them. Henry entered this competition ranked 45, but he gave away just one fight during the poules! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ
After a bye and a nice first DE, he loses the access to the last 8 by a handful of points, but he showed great progress and potential.
Later in the morning Isabella, Ella and Sofia stepped onto the pistes of the women's epee. Ella and Sofia get two victories each, landing not easy DEs in the second round. Ella pays a bit her missed training sessions in the past couple months, due a knee injury and finishes her match 15/14, a very close call for her. Sofia fenced an amazing match against a strong opponent, losing by just 3 points, knowing though that she is not far off the best of the competitions ๐Ÿคฉ
Finally Isabella, our recently selected GBR ๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง fencer, lost only one poule match and then went on to get a bye, win her first DE and then she gave all Luso coaches a heart attack! A match that she was always in control of, suddenly went wrong when Isa decided to run a bit too much. 15/14 to the other girl put Isa in the final top 10 of the GB.

Isabella 9th
Henry 10th
Garrick 23rd
Sofia 25th
Ella 34th
Harrison 42nd
Luca 54th

Double bronze ๐Ÿฅ‰ over the weekend for Luso girls! In London Isa stepped on the podium in the Cadet BRC and in Canterbury Sofia got a medal in the U15 of the Leon Paul Junior Serie ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
A harder weekend for the boys, with Henry, Garrick, Harrison, William and Muaadh fencing in the BRC and Luca and Zalan in the U13 of the LPJS.
The final ranking for all fencers is:
Isa and Sofia๐Ÿฅ‰
Luca 9th
Zalan 11th
Harrison 24th
Rmilly 27th
Muaadh 28th
Garrick 34th
William 36th
Henry 39th

Finally, in the U15 girls sabre, Leanna stepped on the piste taking home 2 victories. After winning with confidence her first DE, Leanna fought the n.2 in the ranking, scoring some very nice hits finishing in 15th place. She should be satisfied with her performance! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป

And if you are wondering why we posted pictures of the same fencers the answer is easy: our coaches were so busy they forgot to take more! ๐Ÿ˜…

Busy weekend of sport for Luso ๐Ÿคบ the last two days so many fencers fighting to become the English Youth Champion.
On Saturday in the U13 girls sabre, Anna fought well during the first round of poule getting 4 victories. Ranked 8th, Anna got a BYE and then won her DE to secure her position in the ranking ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ On the other side of the hall, in the U15 boys epee, Muaadh, Henry, Leo, William and Garrick. While Henry and William struggled a bit to find the right mental condition, Muaadh, Leo and Garrick fought their poule well, bring home a total of 13 victories between them, with Garrick losing just one match! An unfortunate draw saw Muaadh and Garrick fight against each other for a spot in the last 16, with the former winning by just a few points. Leo, coming back to fencing after a three years stop, surprised everyone with a very good performance that gave him a place in the top 32.
On Sunday, debut for Laurence in the U11 boys foil. Match after match Laurence built his confidence and brought home a well deserved victory and a close 5/4 defeat. Well done Laurence! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป In the next piste, in the U11 as well, Harry brought home 2 victories and a good performance that will allow him to grow even more in the next competitions.
In the U13 boys epee, Zalan and Luca went on to live completely different experience. Zalan found his rhythm since the first match and closed the poule with 4 victories. Luca, instead, had to wait until his first DE to finally found the right gear to score points, but a second, tough DE saw him stopped in the top 32 of the competition. Best result goes to Zalan, who finishes 12th.
Ella and Romilly on piste for the U15 girls epee, both with three victories in the poule round, they showed control and confidence throughout the competition. While winning 5/3 her DE match, Ella got injured while lunging. After the medical break, Ella tried her best to keep up with the pain and her opponent, who in the end won the fight 15/9. A couple of pistes away, Romilly went on to fight a brilliant match that saw her losing for just one point! Very well done to both of them, their performance convinced the coaches and it is a great starting point for next season.

We remind everyone that there is no fencing this week. Enjoy the break๐Ÿ˜Ž, keep movingโšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿˆ and get ready for a lot of news!๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

A special mention for Luca, who for the first time did two competitions in a row. On Saturday, he fenced in the older age group (U15), taking 3 victories out of 8 matches. He then won the first DE and lost the second 15/13 against the boy who eventually will go forward to win the competition. On Sunday, Luca fenced in his age group (U13) and made good use of the experience gained on the previous day. 7 victories out of 9 matches, ranked 5th after 2 rounds of poules, Luca stops just short of the podium, confirming his 5th place at the end of the competition.
Luca is the living proof that age does not matter much, but attitude, confidence and practice can make the difference, well done! ๐Ÿ’ฏ
Finally, a thank you to David who supported Zalan and Luca on Sunday! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

7 Luso fencers have stepped on the piste over the weekend at the Leon Paul Junior Serie in London.
In the U15 girls, Sofia gives away just 2 fights in 2 rounds of poules, bringing home 10 victories. A bye and a close second DE saw Sofia approaching the final as number 1 in the ranking. A back and forth between the two fencers brought them on the 14/12 for the other girl. One last double gave Sofia a 2nd๐Ÿฅˆ place and the satisfaction of a good competition, useful to build confidence and momentum, looking forward to the big BRC event in July.
In the U15 boys, the first round saw Garrick and Henry struggling a bit, with Muaadh and William taking some nice victories. The second round saw a fantastic Garrick coming back, putting his head in the game giving no space to his opponents. On the other side of the hall, Muaadh kept his fencing nice and clean, bringing home another two victories in two fights๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ Henry and William, instead, brought home one victory each. All the boys made it to the table of 16. Muaadh, after winning the DE for the last 8, has to surrender to the number 1 in the ranking, who had just knocked out Henry. Garrick, well motivated by the opportunity to fence a GBR fencer, stepped on the piste with the right attitude and since the first second made clear that he was in charge of the show. A well deserved victory for him allowed Garrick to fence the semi-final against Alessio, a friend from Cobham. A tight match, with both fencers with 14 points, saw Garrick stopping on the 3rd place of the podium ๐Ÿฅ‰
In the U13 boys, Zalan does not give much space to his opponents, taking 4 victories out of 5 in the poule. After two well-fenced matches, Zalan fought the number 1 in the ranking for a spot in the last 4. A tough match, but Zalan can be very satisfied of his 7th place ๐ŸŽ–๏ธHe has shown great fencing throughout the whole competition
