I’m not one for making a fuss, especially when it comes to what I thought was an unnecessary intervention for a little cut on my index finger…

Turns out it was actually quite deep. 🫣

But huge thanks to the plastic surgeons at N&N Hospital, who talked me through all my RISKS, the options and what they recommended — and, importantly, actually listened while I worked through my B.R.A.I.N. tool before making my decision.

And yes, I absolutely used my contraction breathing to get me through those local anaesthetic jabs! 🫪😅

Funny how the things I teach pregnant women came in very handy when I was the one lying there having my finger stitched up!

For me, this was a perfect little reminder that informed consent isn’t just for birth. It’s about being given the information, having your questions listened to, understanding the risks and benefits, and being supported to make an informed decision about your own body.

Turns out my birthy toolkit is useful for more than labour! 😂💜

SUPPORTING ALL BIRTHS. 💜

There’s been a bit of controversy online recently from some big birthy influencers.

With so much information, opinions, messaging, it can all feel confusing — and sometimes feels like coercion is coming from every direction, not just from your 'medical' teams but online, influences, even family & friends have big options. That's all they are 'Their Options'

But your birth rights remain yours.

Freebirth. Home birth. Hospital birth. Induction. Caesarean. Birth with pain relief. Birth without it.

As doulas, we are not here to tell you how to give birth, push our own beliefs onto you, or withdraw our support because your choices differ from ours.

We’re here to support YOU.

Your choices. Your questions. Your fears. Your decisions.

Most doulas are here to support you, your choices and the birth that feels right for you.

Because we’re here for the woman, not the method of birth. 🤍

Every woman deserves to feel informed, respected, heard and supported — whatever her birth looks like.

Em x

“How are you, hun?”

“Fine, thanks.”

“Yeah, good.”

“We’re doing great.”

How many times have we had this exact conversation during pregnancy, after having a baby, or when we're knee-deep in toddler life?

We ask it.
We answer it.
And most of the time, neither of us really means it.

Because “How are you?” can actually be a really big question.

Especially when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed, touched out, struggling with feeding, not sleeping, feeling lonely, trying to keep a toddler alive and happy, or wondering how everyone else seems to be managing it all so much better than you.

As a culture, we’ve become very good at hiding the hard bits.

We see everyone else seemingly doing an amazing job and convince ourselves that we must be the only ones struggling.

The tidy house.
The happy children.
The packed lunches.
The smiling family photos.
The “loving every minute” posts.

What we don't always see is what happens behind closed doors.

The tears in the bathroom.

The toddler tantrum that pushed you over the edge.

The dinner you couldn't face making.

The night you barely slept.

The feeling that you're giving everything to everyone and there's nothing left for you.

So if you’re the person saying, “How are you, hun?”, maybe try making the question a little easier to answer.

Try:

“How are you really finding things today?”

“Have you managed to eat anything?”

“Do you want to talk, or shall I just sit with you?”

“What can I do to make today a little easier?”

And sometimes, of course, ask the bigger questions too:

“How are you really finding things?”

“Is there anything you’re finding hard at the moment?”

“Do you want to talk about it?”

Because sometimes a positive, specific question makes it much easier to open up.

🫶🏻And if you're the person being asked…

You don't have to say you're fine.

Pregnancy, birth, becoming a parent and raising little people can be beautiful.

And bloody hard.

Both can be true.

Let's make it a little more normal to say so. 🤍

The things my job has made completely normal.

Talking about placentas over coffee.
Getting excited about pelvic anatomy.
Owning a demo pelvis.
And yes… a knitted uterus.

Apparently, I’m this person. 😂
And honestly? I love it.

Baby & Muma Yoga is back 💜✨

There’s something lovely about having somewhere to go where you don’t have to have it all together.

A place where baby can feed, wriggle, sleep, cry or join in… and you can just be you. 🌿

Our Baby & Muma Yoga sessions return Tuesday 25th August, 1–2pm at Cringleford Willow Centre.

These are gentle, relaxed sessions designed for both of you:

🌿 Gentle postnatal yoga to move, stretch and reconnect with your body
🌿 Simple soothing techniques to help settle baby
🌿 Singing, bonding & relaxed play
🌿 Time to meet other mums who are in the same boat
🌿 A chance to pause, breathe and feel a little more like you

Suitable from around 6 weeks postpartum to 9 months-ish

And there’s absolutely no pressure for baby to behave! 😂
They can sleep. Feed. Cry. Wriggle. Watch. Whatever they fancy.

You just turn up as you are. 🤍

Come for the yoga. Stay for the connection, the little moments, the giggles and the exhale.
