A WhatsApp pings. πŸ“²

Someone needs something. 🫩

And suddenly the β€œperfect plan” has disappeared........

This is why I talk so much about the myth of time management.

Because time is not something we can control.

It passes whether we are focused, distracted, stressed, calm, productive, or completely overwhelmed.

βœ–οΈ We cannot add more time.
βœ–οΈ We cannot borrow it.
βœ–οΈ We cannot pause it.
βœ–οΈ We cannot get it back.

So the real work is not controlling time!

It is learning to manage distractions, protect your focus, and choose what matters most in the time you do have. πŸ’ͺ🏻

That is where productivity starts to feel a lot more realistic.

Have you ever tried so hard NOT to do something that you end up thinking about it even more?

There's a quote often attributed to Socrates:

"The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new."

And that's such a useful way to think about changing habits.

When we decide to break a bad habit, we often focus entirely on stopping.

❌ Stop scrolling.
❌ Stop procrastinating.
❌ Stop snacking.
❌ Stop checking emails every five minutes.
❌ Stop smoking.

But removing an old behaviour leaves a gap.

Instead of putting all your energy into fighting what you don't want to do, think about what you could do instead.

Rather than "I need to stop scrolling", perhaps it's "I'll read a few pages of my book."

Rather than "I need to stop procrastinating", perhaps it's "I'll work on this for just five minutes."

Rather than constantly fighting an old pattern, start giving your brain a new one to follow.

Because change isn't only about what you're leaving behind.

It's about what you're building in its place.

Tomorrow's blog and podcast, entitled "Why Breaking Bad Habits Is So Hard, and What Helps", will explore why old habits can be so difficult to change and how understanding your triggers can help you replace them with something better.

It's such a shame living so close to this.... Wembury bay.

Is your to-do list keeping you busy, but not actually moving you forward?

That is the problem with a lot of traditional to-do lists.

They collect everything that you "HAVE" to do.

πŸ“¨ Emails.
πŸ“‹ Admin.
πŸ’¬ Messages.
🀏🏻 Tiny jobs.
πŸ€ͺ Random reminders.
πŸ€” Things that feel urgent but do not really move the needle.

So you spend the day ticking things off, but still end it wondering, β€œWhat did I actually achieve?”

That is why I use a Get Done List instead. A list of things I GET to do!

It helps me focus on the most important thing first, the thing that will actually make a difference, not just the thing shouting the loudest.

Because being productive is not about doing ten things badly.

It is about knowing what matters most, starting there, and building momentum. πŸ’ͺ🏻

But lasting progress isn't built on occasional heroic efforts.
