Feeling the heat badly with fibro? It's been proven that we struggle more in heat.
Keep drinking.
Keep cool.
Keep pacing.

It's silly o'clock, I'm exhausted and my nerve pain has gone crazy tonight. I've asked the Internet why and it's quite interesting.

"Heatwaves amplify nerve pain because extreme temperatures over-activate damaged nerves and stress your body's regulatory systems.
The main biological reasons for this pain spike include:
Lowered Nerve Thresholds: Damaged nerves become hypersensitive. When skin temperature rises, heat-sensitive pain receptors (like TRPV1) fire more easily, turning mild warmth into burning or stinging.
Dehydration and Electrolyte Loss: Sweating depletes your body of essential fluids and minerals (like sodium and potassium). This impairs healthy nerve signaling and can cause muscle cramps.
Increased Swelling: Heat forces blood vessels to widen, which increases blood flow and can lead to localized swelling in the extremities. This extra fluid physically compresses already-irritated nerves in tight areas like the wrists and ankles.
Heightened Inflammation: The metabolic stress of regulating body temperature can trigger systemic inflammation, which is a major driver of neuropathic pain."

The window is open as well causing muscle cramps which I'm sure adds to it all.

I'm having a drink and gently acknowledging the increased sensation, while reassuring myself that I'm safe. I'll find myself a meditation to listen to and head back to bed when I'm ready.

If you're coming to any of our events this week (pain cafes in Saltash Studios Tues, Wonford Community & Learning Centre Ltd Exeter Weds, Unit8Gym Fri and fundraising quiz night at the Royal British Legion Plympton Branch The Royal British Legion Fri) please take care and drink plenty.

Hope to see you soon,
Julie.
