Another good Saturday for football! Here are the weekly write ups. 🦁🌞

U13 Blacks
The Lions U13 Blacks continued their impressive start to the season with a convincing 10–1 victory over Hayling Island.

The message before kick-off was simple: start fast, start strong and play with intensity from the first whistle. The boys certainly delivered.

We were dominant throughout the first half, pressing aggressively, keeping possession tidy and showing real discipline in how we used the space available. Rather than forcing play, we moved the ball well and looked to exploit opportunities, putting Hayling Island under constant pressure.

The result was a commanding 7–1 lead at half-time, reflecting the intensity and quality of our first-half performance.

The second half was a little slower, with the tempo dropping from the standards we had set earlier in the game. However, the boys continued to create opportunities and added another three goals to bring the score to double figures.

There were plenty of positives to take away. Our pressing was strong, our work on the ball was composed, and our discipline in finding space showed the progress we're making with our patterns of play.

As always, there are standards to maintain. The challenge now is to sustain that same intensity and concentration till the final whistle

U15 Blues v Stubbington Ravens
Against a big side with lots of subs. The boys struggled to get the ball as the opposition moved the ball well in the first half dominating possession. However, the boys were more clinical, and with only 3 genuine attacks we scored 2 to their 1. 2-1 at half time meant we were coming out with the bright sun in our face. But this didn't seem to make any difference. The boys had found their groove due to a solid back line, superior fitness and clear decision making. The boys won the ball and once we had it, moved the ball well to score 3 goals, 5 - 1. Stubbington tried to fight back with 2 more goals 5 - 3 but it wasn't enough. Our boys scored the final goal in the last few minutes to win 6 - 3. Despite the score line it wasn't an easy win. The boys stepped up as individuals and are starting to communicating well as a team. Hopefully the momentum continues into next week's game. 🤜🏿👏🏿

2nd round of the Hampshire Cup.
Locks Heath Lions U12s Blue played 1st Division Farnborough Yellows.

Today was expected to be a difficult cup tie.

Locksheath came out strong, putting Farnborough under immediate pressure. It was clear from the start that this game was going to be a physically, well matched and competitive tie. Seeing 1 yellow card, a penalty, 7 free kicks!!

Despite our dominance initially, (10mins) Farnborough's right back puts in a looping cross from the right channel, just inside our half which cleared everyone and managed to sneak into the nearside top corner.

After this farnborough smelt blood and placed us under pressure, leading to a lack of concentration from Lions and some mistakes at the back. This included a penality from a mis-timed tackle and an indirect free kick from a back pass.

Luckily the pen hit the bar, and Henry produced a save with the follow up. The indirect free kick was excellently blocked by the charging wall.

Just before half time, Lions started to dominate play again and created an opportunity for a free kick in Cullen's range. Cullen drilled the ball low which took a deflection and rolled into their keepers arms.

Second half, Dom and Gil put their defence under immediate pressure from their press, winning the ball up high. Owen's second half performce in CM was off the scale, wining every ball and having the vision to start the attack.

( 35 mins) Dom challenges for the ball, being a nuisance and manages to pinch it off the defender, with his quick thinking splits the defence onto Connor's left foot. Excellent strike and nestles the ball into the side net.

(37 mins) Owen wins a free kick approximately 25 yard out, centre of the pitch. Our free Kick specialist, Cullen, doesnt miss twice, driving the ball with power straight into the top of the net, the keeper had no chance. ⚠️🚀

With Lions taking the lead, the opposition started to panic, the manager pushed 1 defender up leaving only two at the back. We exploited this and had a number of shots from Cullen, Connor and Owen all going just wide.

(55mins) Farnborough equalise from lose ball following a corner. Which made the last 5 minutes a tense one.

Jacob saves their first pen which went slighly to the left of him.

2 Owen - burries the ball high into the left hand side netting.

3 Connor drives the ball hard and high into the net.

4 - Nervous coach watchea on (dad). BUT Elliott - what nerves 🤷‍♀️- placed low into the side net. Fantastic pen from our captain.

There was lots of talk on the warm weather on the sidelines today, another warm day for our games. 🌞 Here's the weekly round ups.

U13 Blacks
The Lions U13 Blacks came away with a 6–1 victory over local rivals LHL Reds, with the first half finishing 4–1.

The aim coming into the game was to build on our previous performances and continue developing our patterns of play. While the result was positive, the performance showed us that there is still plenty of work to do.

The game was much less structured and more chaotic than we would have liked. Too often we tried to force the ball through a crowd of players rather than recognising the space available out wide and using the pitch to our advantage. We also lost too many individual duels, which made it harder for us to establish control and play the football we know we're capable of.

To the boys' credit, we continued to create chances and showed enough quality in the final third to score six goals.

But the message from today is clear: we know we can be better.

We need to be more composed in possession, recognise when to play wide, move the ball quicker and be stronger in our individual battles. These are the areas that will help us take the next step as a team.

A good result, but an important reminder that results are only part of the journey — the standards and performances are what we're building towards.

U15 Blues
V Soccer Scholar Academy with a full team with subs. Something we haven't had in a while! Being fast and first to the ball made the first goal within 5 minutes. After that the tone was set. Relentless work to win the ball and capitalise on the oppositions poor touch gave us lots opportunities. By half time the score was 5 - 0. But we have been here before and nearly lost it. But not this time! After another goal to seal the victory, some players were subbed off and others w were asked to play different positions to improve their gameplay. Another goal was scored to make the final score 7-0. A good game to win and learn! 🤜🏿

U15 Red lost 5-2 in a very physical game.

Going 3-0 down (including a ludicrous penalty) we showed great fight to get back to 3-2 and were on top. Their CB practically caught the ball in the box but no penalty, our CF wins a header and the oppo puts it out for our throw edge of the box. Because their player injured their foot landing, ref gave them a drop ball on the half way line which they then went and scored from 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

Lots of off the ball incidents missed as was ball watching.

We only had 12 players to start with and ended up with two injured (one as a result of off ball incident) so a tough gig against a team that will probably win the league.

Really good battle unfortunately ruined but we go again.

U10’s had a great game this morning. Standout performances were hard to come by because all the team were immense. 2 goals to our captain T, and a goal apiece for H (MOTM) & F who only joined this season. Keeper & defenders were unshakable at the back while midfield ran their legs off.
Real progress in their passing and marking from last season with all the boys playing their part.

Under 16 green won their third game from four away at Portchester on a bumpy pitch. Without a recognised goalkeeper and only one sub we told the boys to start quick and make a mark on the game early. We found ourselves 3-0 up inside six minutes and the boys had clearly finally listened. A further penalty goal made it 4-0 at half time, we swapped keepers at half time and kept going to add a further 4 goals, Portchester pulled one back from a corner but we will happily take an 8-1 away win every day of the week. Goals today came from a hattrick by Jonas, two from Elliot, a debut goal from Reggie and single goals from Cameron and Luca. A special word to Harry and Jordan who stepped up and went in goal, a great team effort.

U18s - Locks Heath Lions vs Portsdown Pumas, they beat us in a pre-season friendly but it was a close match with Lions leaving lots of chances that we couldn’t capitalise on. We had high hopes going into the game but within 5 minutes conceded from a corner that curled straight in - the lads took a breath, and as ever kept battling. Had a number of opportunities attacking the goal, but couldn’t quite work it into the back of the net.
Defence stayed strong and defiant, and the midfield were playing with energy and moving the ball up the pitch. In the 16th minute Ollie equalised from a free kick!
2 minutes later Finley takes us ahead.
Our attacking play is paying off, finding the free man and switching play across the field. Attacking the goal saw us receive a number of corners. Both teams had a number of chances, but couldn’t find the back of the net. Eventually at 33 minutes Pumas equalised - a tight game. Making subs was painfully difficult as they were playing so well as a team. The half played out with the score remaining 2-2.
Second half all to play for and within 5 minutes we took the lead again with a goal from Danny. Being a goal ahead felt good, but also so uneasy, knowing it wouldn’t take much for Pumas to come back. Good football from both teams, knowing the next goal could either seal it or redraw the battle lines. After what seemed like an eternity Finley struck gold, scoring his 2nd goal of the match on the 22 minutes mark. Surely that must seal it, but Pumas dug deep and kept the pressure on. With 15 minutes to go, Danny got his second goal, and it looked like we were on the home stretch to our first win for over a year! And then to top it off Danny scored his hat-trick. And the smiles started to appear. But as they say it’s not over till it’s over! Pumas responded almost immediately with a goal 6-3 with 10 minutes to go. Through shear determination and perseverance with 2 minutes to go, Pumas scored again! But a few minutes later we were able to celebrate, final score 6-4, an awesome match by both teams. Well done everyone, a real team effort, but we have to take our hats off to Danny for his hat-trick 👍🏻

**Attention Micro shin pads banned with immediate effect**

We have recently started seeing these shin pads creep back into the club.

The safety of our players is paramout, so with IMMEDIATE effect we will not be allowing any players wearing micro shin pads to play matches or to train.

The following image highlights the difference on how little shin the micro pads cover, it just isn't worth the risk, after all you wouldn't wear half a helmet to ride a bike!

A lovely warm morning for the matches again, here are the round ups! 🦁⚽️

U13 Blacks
A dominant performance from the Lions U13 Blacks as we progressed in the cup with a convincing 10–0 victory over Sarisbury Sparks Black at home.

The boys came out of the blocks quickly and set the tone from the start. We controlled the game, moved the ball well and created plenty of opportunities, going into half-time with a 5–0 lead.

The second half continued in much the same way, with the boys maintaining their intensity, discipline and focus to add another five goals and complete a comprehensive cup victory.

But today wasn't simply about the scoreline. It was about maintaining our standards.

Even with a comfortable lead, the expectation was to keep working hard, stay disciplined, play our football and show the same attitude and commitment right through to the final whistle.

The boys did exactly that.
A great opportunity for everyone to contribute, another clean sheet and a performance that showed the standards we're setting for ourselves.

U7 Red.

Our u7 team played their first ever "league match" today, away at Purbrook, and were absolutely brilliant.
Lots of running, some great passing, strong tackles and bundles of goals!!
It was amazing to see them all play with smiles on their faces, using the skills they have been learning in training and working well as a team!

The boys had a great morning and can't wait for their next match!

U13: Locksheath Lions Red (3) v Locksheath Lions Greens (4)

A real ding d**g battle between two very good Locksheath sides.

Greens went 1 nil up after closing down our goal kick. We then did the same to make it 1-1 with a good finish from Max but a really well taken free kick put Greens 2-1 up at the break.

Second half we started well and created chances but went 1-3 and 1-4 down after a bit of confusion at the back. However, the Reds rallied Aahil winning a penalty, converting and scoring his second. We nearly took it to pens but Max's free kick came off the inside of the post to safety.

Well played Greens, good luck in the next round.

Not a bad day for football, not too hot and dry! Here are some write ups from today. ⚽️

*U13 Blacks*
The Lions U13 Blacks kept the momentum with a well-earned 2–0 victory at Bishops Waltham, making it two wins from our opening two fixtures.

The first half was a tight affair, finishing 0–0, but the boys remained patient and continued to work hard. We knew that if we kept our shape, stayed disciplined and moved the ball well, the chances would come.

And they did.

The breakthrough finally came in the second half with a fantastic long-range effort, giving us the lead. We continued to work hard and, with Bishops Waltham pushing for an equaliser, we found the net again with another excellent strike from distance to make it 2–0.

It was a very strong team performance from everyone, with each player playing their part working tirelessly to secure the win.

The biggest positive was the way everyone worked for each other. The boys showed great discipline, concentration and determination throughout, and the clean sheet was a fantastic reward for the effort across the whole team.

Inter City (5) V Lions U12s Blue (3)

The boys should be so proud of themselves today. Despite being 4 down, they continued to work for each other, support and encourage each other and got themselves back into the game.

The first half, I feel we gave them too much respect and didnt quite press as a unit.

However the second half, we came out on the front foot and frustrated the opposition. As soon as we got that first goal, the boys were hungry for more.

The oppositions last goal was always a risk as we pushed up for the leveller.

To score 3 goals against a very physical, well organised team just shows the levels we can reach.

Excellent composed goals from Thomas, Dom and Connor.

Superb defensive performance by all, starting from the attack and press all the way to the defensive line.

Henry made some insane saves in the last quarter.

Massive shout out to connor, for driving his team forward from defence. Showing excellent work rate (managers player of the match).

U13: Hayling Youth Black (6) Vs Locksheath Lions Red (2)

First league game in a division up and we know what level we have to play at.
We started slow and lost most of our 50/50s. Their press was very good and we struggled to clear the ball with the wind against us. We were unlucky to concede the first, the ball hitting one of our players off a corner for an own goal. Their next two goals were very well worked and finished. Their other goal coming off a corner.
Max came on after 20 mins and scored a really difficult goal. Running onto a through ball from Seb, beating the keeper to it and putting it in from wide.
HT: 4-1
We had a good team talk at half time, asking for more desire and fight. The team certainly showed up. Especially Sam. He epitomised what we were asking for. Winning the ball back and getting us back attacking. Which is exactly what happened for our second goal. Sam won it, drove forward, laid off to Aahil who crossed it to Max.
It finished 6-2. However, for 40 mins I saw a team who can compete at this level. Well done Lions. 🦁

Our U12s and above were back to league football yesterday and it was great to see a busy ground.

We wish everyone a great season of enjoying football!

Here's a few match write ups from yesterday:

Under 15 Red
After a very difficult summer where we needed to rebuild after being convinced we would be folding from losing 5 players, we were expecting a difficult start.
With only 12 fit players we rocked up in Gosport vs Borough expecting a difficult day.
My word did the boys prove me wrong. Ten minutes in and we are 2-0 up with new signing Y scoring an early brace.
BM then struck with a powerful volley from a corner to send us in 3-0 up at half time.
Second half continued the same with us dominating possession. CR with a delightful volley to put us 4-0 up and home and dry.
3 points in the bag.
3 very impressive debuts with L keeping a clean sheet, Y scoring two and JJ getting man of the match.
So proud of the boys for what they did today after a summer of turmoil.

U16 Greens
Starting with a late pull out just before kick off leaving us with just 11 players, and with no recognised goalkeeper either, it threatened to be a challenging 80 minutes.
However that was the opposite of what was to follow. From minute 1 the boys were up for it and it was reflected when we found ourselves 2-0 up after 25minutes. First half drama wasn’t over as we unfortunately missed a penalty just before half time
2 minutes into the second half they pulled a goal back but from that moment on “thou shalt not pass” was the motto of the team. The task made harder when we went down to 10 players for the final 20mins due to injury but each and everyone player gave it all and left everything on the pitch restricting our opponents to barely half-chances or tame long range efforts.
And even with 10 players we created chances to put the game to bed but for their keeper it would’ve been more comfortable.
So proud of all the boys that they kept their heads and kept plugging away and digging deep giving everything for each other.
An amazing effort warranted an amazing result. Cannot praise each and everyone of those boys out there today.
Special mention goes to Harry for stepping up and going in goal but a MOTM couldn’t be chosen so the entire team gets it this week
2-1 Lions win ⚽️⚽️💪

U12 Lionesses
Our first competitive game for the U12 Girls saw us sadly go down 2–1, but what a performance from the Lionesses!
After a bright start, our captain Olivia drew an early save from their keeper before we found ourselves 1–0 down following a melee in the box. They managed to squeeze the ball in off the post !!
The second half saw the Lionesses push hard for an equaliser, with Poppy testing their goalkeeper with an audacious lob from inside her own half!
Heroic defending from Poppy, Darcie, Elena and Evie kept the score at 1–0 until the opposition caught us on the counter to make it 2–0 against the run of play.
But the Lionesses weren't done! 🦁🔥 Some excellent work down the wing from Girl of the Match Caitlin won us a late corner, which Olivia dispatched beautifully into the top corner!
A great game and a very unlucky result. The girls can be incredibly proud of their effort, especially Bella, Zadie and Harper who had never played a competitive match before.
Onto the next one!

U13 Black
U13 Blacks kicked off the season with a convincing 5–2 victory against Stoneham.
From the first whistle, the boys were absolutely outstanding. We dominated the game in the first half, with grit and determination, creating chances and playing some fantastic football. The hard work and intensity paid off as we went into half-time with a well-deserved 3–0 lead.
The second half saw Stoneham come back into the game and put us under a bit more pressure, but the boys showed great character, continued to play our football and finished the match strongly.
Five goals, two conceded and a performance full of energy, teamwork and quality. A brilliant opening fixture and a great reward for the effort the boys have put in during training.
A special mention to every player today — the attitude, commitment and desire to work for each other was fantastic. Plenty to be proud of, and plenty more to build on.
