Happy 71st Birthday to a Great Coach — Viktor Nikolaevich Petrochenko!
27 September 1955 — a day when a great man was born.
I have been involved in boxing for more than 17 years. I spent 12 years in amateur boxing and achieved different things that, at the time, I considered great accomplishments. But today, looking back, I feel that some of those achievements meant very little to me. More than that, I believe that the way I was taught and trained during those years sometimes harmed me as a person and as a boxer.
I dreamed of becoming an Olympic champion and, later, a world champion in professional boxing. I truly believed that I understood boxing and that I knew how to become successful in it.
Then, on 5 April 2017, I met Viktor Nikolaevich Petrochenko.
That day divided my life in boxing into “before” and “after.”
Before — I thought I understood boxing.
After — I finally began to understand what boxing really is.
Unfortunately, by the time I truly understood it, it was already too late to change many things. After 12 years of training in a way that, in my opinion, put enormous strain on my nervous system, I had already paid a heavy price.
But I will always be grateful to Viktor Nikolaevich for everything he gave me — by the mercy and permission of God.
Coach, I sincerely ask Allah to bless your life, grant you many more years, and fill them with health, happiness, peace and only beautiful moments.
And I want you to know one thing:
Everything you have done has a continuation.
I will do everything I can to make sure that the Petrochenko style becomes a great name in boxing — a name that will live on for as long as boxing itself exists.
Your knowledge, your philosophy and your work will not disappear.
