Sunday 4th October
Venue: Boat match onboard ‘Famous’ out of Wallasea

A foggy start to the day but then the sun broke through and what a glorious day to be on the water.

It maybe October but with all this warm weather the good news is the hounds are still around!

As usual, we fished a handful of marks, recording 84 fish. Six species were recorded - 25 Smoothounds, 33 Dogfish, 7 Dabs, 9 Bass, 4 Whiting, 6 Pouting. Just the 1 sizeable Bass (56cm), biggest hound on the day was 87cm

Sunday 27th September
Venue: Walton pier
Match times: 10:00am - 16:00pm
High Tide 12:52pm 4.29m
Weather: Sunny intervals with a moderate SSE breeze.

A good turnout for this one with 24 members making the trip up the A12.

Anglers fished both sides of the pier and it was tough going and slim pickings for long spells. An interesting selection of fish were caught on the day including two wrasse caught underneath the pier at the start, a couple of mullet either side of the hut and a strap conger at the furthest mark. Des Barden won the match with a flurry of bass towards the end of the match nearer the amusements end.

24 fish were recorded in total- 2 Thin Lipped Mullet, 2 Ballan Wrasse, 16 Bass, 1 Conger, 3 Dabs. A number of fish below 18cm were also landed (schoolies and gobies)

Sunday 13th September
Venue: Boat match onboard ‘Famous’ out of Wallasea

The day started off wet with the rains coming down heavily. Fortunately, they stopped once we got to our first mark and didn’t trouble us any more until our motor back at the end of the session.
As per usual skipper Steve anchored at a few marks with a decent return of 82 fish being caught - 26 Hounds, 40 Bass (9 were sizeable), 14 Dogs, 1 Whiting and 1 Dab.

Monday 7th September
Venue: Thorpe Bay beach, opposite The Roslin
Match times: 7:30pm - 11:00pm
High Tide 10:15pm 5.0m
Weather: Very mild but strong onshore winds from the SW

Ten members fished the latest of our evening matches on a very pleasant mild autumnal evening. A lot of small bass were out and about accounting for most of the catch with a few eels too being caught. As per the norm for this venue most anglers were using 2 hook flappers with small hooks targeting the flounders. Some good flounders were caught but we also haven’t said goodbye to the hounds just yet for this year and sure enough just after high tide they showed up catching many of us unprepared. A fantastic fish to catch and they didn’t disappoint, they seemed to be particularly feisty on the night and landing one with small rigs and size2 hooks proved to be particularly challenging with several being lost.

88 fish in total were caught - 67 Bass, 11 Flounders, 7 Eels, 3 Hounds.

Another enjoyable day out on Famous with 27 Hounds, 21 Bass (no keepers) and 1 lonely Dog carded.

Laszlo took the honours with a 108cm Hound@11lb 5oz, Kev finding a rich area of Bass, Graham with a new 93cm Hound PB. The range of scores are spread around the boat so it seems that seats drawn may have little effect on the outcome.

Sunday 9th August
Coldharbour Lane, Rainham
High tide: 10:30am
Fishing times: 7:30am-12:00pm
Weather: Hot, very hot and not a breath of wind!

No trip south through the Dartford tunnel or busy beaches/piers this week, instead a relatively local venue. The eleven members that made the trip on Sunday were rewarded with a glorious day in a very peaceful setting and several good sized Bass. I’d almost describe it as an idyllic location, not words you usually associate with Rainham but I for one will certainly think about revisiting when I have spare bait and want a bit of peace and quiet.

Everyone registered a catch of fish with a minimum 18cm - 54 Bass (several undersized fish were also landed), and 1 Flounder - strangely no Eels after a decent number from Tilbury recently.

Sunday 2nd August
Samphire Hoe

I always look forward to this one - a tricky one to fish this,and a snaggy venue where rigs and tactics need to be different to most other venues, but the variety fish you can catch make it an enjoyable day out. Nice to try a spot of float fishing here but a fresh breeze from the North East put that idea to bed so minimal flapper rigs with short snoods were the order of the day.

It can also be a bit of a struggle to land sizeable fish and many below 18cm - Wrasse, Blenny, Pouting, Goby were caught on the day.

However, 38 fish were on the scorecards - 23 Ballan Wrasse, 1 Corkwing Wrasse, 10 Pouting, 1 Strap Conger, 2 Pollack. 1 Blenny.

26th July

Another good turnout by 19 members, the best this year, including 3 Lady members all catching, for the 9am-2.30pm match.

53 fish were recorded - 27 Bass, 19 Eels, 4 Flounders & 3 Soles - Martin Lee winning the Sole Hunt with 21cm as no catch was recorded in the 1st leg.

Sunday 12th July

Another lovely day to be out and 16 members showed up to fish Erith Pier from 8.30am-1.30pm.
11 recorded fish with a minimum of 18cm, 5 tried but unfortunately blanked.
36 fish were recorded - 1 Grey Mullet 5oz for James, 2 Flounders, 6 Eels, and 27 Bass - 1 of Martin's went 6lb 13oz.

Nice to see two Juniors both recording catches too.
