Thirteen fished the 3rd of the 6 match series, carding 5 species totalling 23 fish - 6 Bass, 1 Flounder, 5 eels, 10 Hounds, 1 Thornback. It seems that the draw may have helped, with pegs 1 to 4 blanking. Sunday 31st May
Venue: Widewater beach, Sussex
High tide: 12:16 pm, 5.69m (Shoreham)
Match times 9am -3pm (approx 3hrs flood and 3 hrs ebb)
Weather: Moderate breeze from SW
Fourteen of us headed South in what was hoped to be a Plaice session, sadly not! just 2 were caught. While not a prolific number of fish were recorded, a couple of species not often found by us - Gurnard & Black Bream - were landed.
The match itself was pegged either side of the swimming zone with the top 3 places being taken by those fishing the Worthing side as opposed to those fishing the Brighton side. Ian Collins who won the match caught all his fish on the flood. A day that had started with a “moderate breeze” (according to the Beeb) from the SW soon developed into much stronger gusts making the fishing conditions more than challenging. This, coupled with the lack of fish, led most to cut their losses and pack up early leaving the beach to the masses of wind and kite surfers arriving who were certainly enjoying the winds a lot more than we did!
Species caught: 1 Gurnard, 2 Flounders, 10 Black Bream, 2 Plaice, 9 Bass.
Result:
25pts Ian Collins scored 214. 1 Red Gurnard, 6 Black Bream, 1 Plaice.
24pts Dave Clark 51. 2 Black Bream.
23pts James Flood 37. 1 Black Bream, 1 Bass.
22pts Martin Grossman 32. 1 Flounder, 1 Black Bream.
21pts Stuart Chandler 29. 2 Bass.
20pts Geoff Tomlin 27. 1 Plaice, 1 Bass.
19pts Alan Schmincke 23. 2 Bass.
18pts Richard Bull 20. 1 Bass.
17pts Dave Fuller 19. 2 Bass.
16pts Jason Fairless 18. 1 Flounder.
5pts each - Laszlo Mundi, Eunice John, John Railton, Graham Passey.

Nine members & one guest left the marina before 7am so that the Famous skipper, Steve Hill, could cross the bank to fish the Maplin Sands. He moved marks a couple of times when the tide changed, putting us on the fish, and the w**d we were warned about at one mark was somewhat less than expected.

Eleven members fished the usual 7.30pm-11.00pm match, with a forecast high tide at 9.38pm, 4.9m. At least the water arrived and there was not a negative surge!
Seems like everyone enjoyed the match with 68 fish recorded - 53 Bass, 10 Flounders, 5 Eels.
The 4 higher numbered pegs, Pegs 8 to 11, took the first 4 places.
Result:
25pts Martin Lee scored 269. 13 Bass, 3 Flounders, 3 Eels.

Sunday 26th April
Venue: Boat match onboard ‘Famous’ out of Wallasea
We started with a lumpy trip to the first mark with the wind against the tide stronger than forecast, but it turned out to be a day everyone enjoyed.
Skipper Steve moved marks a number of times looking for Smoothounds but they did not materialise to any extent. However, fish were coming up regularly and all members registered catches recording 86 fish - 42 Dogfish, 18 Dabs, 14 Whiting, 3 Starry Hounds, 2 Common Hounds, 7 Bass - best two at 6lb 8oz and 2lb 14oz. A number of fish were not measured which would have increased the tally.
Result:
25pts Alan Schmincke scored 958. 9 Dogs, 5 Dabs, 5 Whiting, 1 Bass @ 6lb 8oz.
24pts Kevin Hellenbrand 645. 8 Dogs, 1 Dab, 2 Whiting, 2 Bass, 1 Starry Hound.

Venue: Seaford
Match: 8:30am - 1:30pm
High Tide (Newhaven): 1:09pm 6.85m
Weather: Sunny with a gentle breeze from the north
Not sure if someone has run over a Black Cat as, again, not a great number of fish were recorded, despite recent reports giving some members at the last meeting concern that it may be crowded. There was a crowd of yachtsmen, however, meaning Des had to move pegs!
Seven of the target fish, Plaice, were recorded with Kevin Hellenbrand & Dave Fuller leading the way in the Species Hunt with 32cm. The 2nd leg is at Widewater, Lancing 31 May 2026.
17 members fished, recording 23 fish - 14 Flounders, 7 Plaice, 1 Hound, and 1 Dog were recorded.

Saturday 11th April 29th March
Venue: Canvey Lobster Smack
Match: 5:30pm - 9:30pm
Bizarely for the 2nd time this year in one of our matches the water wasn't arriving at the coast, with a negative tide surge making lower numbered pegs virtually unfishable for a time.
In really difficult circumstances, 5 Flounders & 3 Bass were recorded, so well done to those catching.
Result:
25pts Dave Fuller scored 44. 1 Flounder.
24pts Laszlo Mundi 40. 1 Flounder.
23pts Geoff Tomlin 38. 2 Bass.
22pts Reg Casbolt 26. 2 Flounders.

Sunday 29th March
Venue: Clacton, Kingscliff Beach.
High Tide: 10:13am 3.89m
Match: 8am - 1:30pm
Weather: Sunny but cold with a gentle breeze from SW
Fifteen Members remembered to put their the clocks forward and embarked on a relatively short trip up the A12 to Clacton, Kingscliff Beach.
It turned out totally different to 29 March last year when 70 fish were recorded - 49 Whiting, 1 Thornback, 9 Dabs, 2 Bass, 4 Pouting, 2 Plaice, 3 Dogs, which is why the match was scheduled for yesterday - easy putting a calendar together!
This year was a tough day with the fish caught outnumbering the anglers! just 11 fish were recorded - 9 Whiting & 2 Dabs. Nothing like last year nor what the local expert suggested a couple of days ago may be around.
Result:
25pts Martin Grossman scored 43. 2 Whiting, 1 Dab.
24pts Des Barden 30. 2 Whiting.
23pts Ben Kirby 22. 2 Whiting.
22pts Graham Passey 12. 1 Whiting.
21pts Geoff Tomlin 10. 1 Whiting.
21pts Simon Emanuel 10. 1 Whiting.
21pts Alan Schmincke 10. 1 Dab.
5pts each Jason Willis, Stuart Fennell, Richard Bull, Reg Casbolt, Eunice John, Laszlo Mundi, Dave Fuller, James Flood.
