Give your nervous system the afternoon it’s been asking for.

If you’ve been running on empty — holding everyone together, keeping the household moving, showing up for everyone else — this afternoon is yours.

💜 Your body feels tense, wired, or tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix
💜 You’re curious about yin yoga but haven’t tried it before
💜 You simply need two uninterrupted hours for yourself

No yoga experience needed. All bodies welcome.

Feel like your days are just a blur of doing?

The same routines.
The same tasks.
The same “get through the day” energy.

It’s easy to miss what’s right in front of you.

But what if nothing needed to change…
except your attention?

Try this:

Pause.
Look around.
Ask yourself — what beauty can I experience right now?

The washing is hanging in the sun.
Your child’s voice in the next room.
The rhythm of an ordinary moment.

Noticing doesn’t add more to your day.
It softens it.

And over time, that small shift changes how you feel in your parenting — and how your children experience you.

Throw away the devices!

Not forever.
But long enough to remember what actually connects us.

Eye contact.
Conversation.
Shared moments around a table.

Because real connection doesn’t live inside a screen.

It grows when we slow down long enough to notice each other again.

The Family Gratitude Journal was created for exactly that — a simple 10-minute daily ritual that helps families pause, talk, reflect and build emotional resilience together.

No apps.
No notifications.
Just presence.

Hear me out… the shift in your home might surprise you.

You don’t need to become someone new each year.

You just need to keep honouring who you are becoming.

Motherhood already changes us in ways we never expected.
It stretches us, softens us, humbles us… and slowly reshapes who we are.

There’s so much pressure around a “new year, new you.”

But what if the real work is simply paying attention to the woman you’re already growing into?

This episode was surprisingly hard for me to articulate.
Some reflections sit so deep it takes time to find the words.

But I wanted to say thank you.

For listening.
For sharing.
For reflecting.
For growing alongside me.

This podcast and this community have meant more than I can put into words.

Sometimes living authentically means burning down the version of life that no longer fits.

In this episode of Breathe, Laugh, Parent — The Shine Om Podcast, Bree Wi******er shares her journey from journalist to author, spiritual teacher, and co-founder of Suburban Goddess — a path that began by saying goodbye to a marriage, a business, and a house.

We talk about the courage it takes to rebuild from scratch, how creativity can become your anchor, and why resistance is often the sign you’re on the right track.

If you’ve been craving change but fear has kept you stuck, Bree’s story might just be the nudge you need.

Ever feel like you’re with your child… but not really connecting?

“Colouring with my child is more than art—it’s connection.”

It’s where the day slows down.
Where the noise softens.
Where little conversations happen naturally (or we just sit quietly together).

No pressure.
No perfect outcome.
Just presence.

And those small moments?
They’re what build calm, connection, and emotional safety over time.

If your days feel busy but you’re craving more connection with your child…
this is a simple place to start.

🖍️ One page. One moment. Together.

Not all regulation is about calming down.

Sometimes what we actually need… is to wake up the system.

When we talk about nervous system care, we often think of slowing down, breathing deeply, and soothing the body.

That’s down-regulation.

But after prolonged stress, burnout, or emotional overload, many parents find themselves in the opposite state — flat, frozen, numb, or disconnected.

That’s where up-regulation comes in.

Up-regulation helps lift the nervous system out of shutdown.

You might notice you need it when:
• You feel like you're on autopilot
• You feel emotionally flat or disconnected
• You feel exhausted even after rest

Simple up-regulation tools can include:
• Shaking out your arms and legs
• Brisk walking
• Dancing to upbeat music
• Moving your body to release stuck energy

Sometimes the most regulating thing you can do… is move.

This part of my conversation with Shelby felt so real.

She spoke about letting go of “mummy wine.”

Not from a place of judgment.
Not from a place of shame.

But from awareness.

She noticed that the craving for a drink wasn’t really about the wine.

It was about the feeling underneath.

The tightness in her chest.
The anxious energy rising around bedtime.
The weight of the day.
The “doom” of the evening routine.

And instead of numbing it, she asked:

What is this sensation?
Can I sit with it?
What do I actually need right now?

Sometimes it was as simple as choosing tea instead.
Breathing.
Being with the feeling instead of escaping it.

That’s nervous system work.

Not perfection.
Not deprivation.
Just noticing and choosing differently.

In a culture that normalises coping through wine o’clock, this kind of honesty is powerful.

What using the Family Gratitude Journal looks like in real life — with two little kids.

Not a big routine.
Not another thing to “get right”.
Just 10 minutes a day.

In the morning (about 5 minutes) — often while we’re getting dressed or finishing breakfast — we pause and notice something good or set an intention for the day. Sometimes we share a family affirmation. The girls might draw, write, or just say their answer out loud.

In the evening (another 5 minutes) — usually around the kitchen while dinner is being prepared — we reflect on the day.
What felt good? What helped? What are we grateful for?
That’s it.

Over time these small pauses create something powerful —
a rhythm of calm, emotional awareness, and connection in our home.
Not perfection.
Just presence, practiced daily.
