West Yorkshire Winter League – Queensbury RC (18/01/26)

What a day. What a course. What weather… πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¨πŸŒ«οΈ
And yet, thanks to an incredible group of volunteers, the race went ahead and was a huge success.

While this event was very much about teamwork and resilience, there were some fantastic performances from our runners that deserve a mention.
Tom finished an outstanding 2nd overall in 30:35, Richard Roulson took 2nd place in the MV60 category, and Carole secured a brilliant 4th in the FV60 category.
That said, massive credit goes to all our runners β€” just getting round that course in those conditions was an achievement in itself.

This post, however, is mainly about the people who made the event possible.

Our marshals were absolutely outstanding. Standing out for hours in truly appalling conditions, keeping runners safe, smiling, encouraging and ensuring the race could go ahead as planned. Normally our marshals are experts at directions along the lines of β€œrun towards that gap in the trees” or β€œhead for the marshal over there”… unfortunately the thick fog had other ideas. Even so, everyone stayed in the right place and the race ran smoothly β€” which says everything about the quality of our volunteers.

A huge thank you as well to everyone who helped behind the scenes β€” those in the ARCH, in the kitchen keeping people fed and warm, and everyone who supported with the raffle. These roles often go unseen, but they are just as vital to a successful event.

Special thanks must go to:

Glenn, our Race Director, who put in an enormous amount of work behind the scenes. Countless hours, plenty of sleepless nights, and total commitment to making sure everything ran smoothly.

Dave Faulkner, who somehow managed to organise and coordinate all the marshals β€” no small task at the best of times, never mind in wet winter conditions.

Nicola, who took on the challenge of arranging the licence (an achievement in itself!) and went above and beyond β€” even missing picking up one of her daughters from the airport so she could cover her marshal area.

We’ve received a huge amount of positive feedback from clubs across the league, and every single comment comes back to the same thing: the volunteers. Your time, effort and commitment are what made this event happen.

Thank you all β€” Queensbury RC did itself proud πŸ’šπŸ§‘

The final race in the series is:
Stainland Lions – 08/02/2026 @ 10:00am

See you there! πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Robin Naylor entered the Northern Masters Ken Mayor 5k Championships last Sunday at the undulating Brownlea Centre 'road' track in Leeds.
Only members of Northern Masters qualified for a medal. Not wanting to miss out on the opportunity of a gong Robin went the full-hog and joined them, hence the strange vest!
To justify this he had to win something.

Not to disappoint, he came first in his age category, obtaining a PB of 22.57.

Amazing effort Robin and well deserved!

It was ideal running conditions over in Tadcaster yesterday for QRC's solo entrant Neil who made the trip to take part in the annual Tadcaster 10.

The 10 mile course takes runners around fully closed roads and although billed as β€˜undulating’, it has a reputation for being a fast and competitive race.

Neil described it as "a decent race and very happy with my finishing time of 1:14:52, steadily building up mileage in preparation for next years Manchester Marathon"

West Yorkshire Winter League – Race Report
Baildon Runners – 16/11/2025 @ 10:30am

What a brilliant turnout for Queensbury RC at Sunday’s WYWL race hosted by Baildon Runners. On a cold and crisp November morning, 21 QRC runners lined up ready to tackle the hills, mud and chilly air that Baildon reliably delivers!

The team put in a fantastic effort all round, with strong performances across the board and some great battles out on the trails. A huge well done to everyone who raced, supported, cheered, or braved the cold to represent the club.

Next Race

Dewsbury RR – 30/11/2025 @ 10am
Let’s get another great turnout and keep the momentum going!

Key Date for the Diary – We Need Marshals

Our own WYWL event is coming up:
Queensbury RC – 18/01/2026 @ 10am (Littlemoor)

We’ll need plenty of marshals to make the day run smoothly.
Please send your name to Dave Faulkner if you can help.

Great running, teamβ€”roll on Dewsbury!

πŸ… 3 Marathons β€’ 3 Weeks β€’ 3 Countries! 🌍πŸ’₯

A massive congratulations to our amazing Gillian Jago, who’s just completed an unbelievable challenge β€” three marathons in three consecutive weeks, across three different countries! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Chicago Marathon – starting strong in one of the world’s major marathons
πŸ‡³πŸ‡± Amsterdam Marathon – keeping the momentum going on the fast and flat Dutch streets
πŸ”οΈ Eryri Marathon (Snowdonia) – finishing in true Queensbury style on what Gillian described as β€œthe toughest of the year” πŸ’ͺ

Three weeks. Three medals. Three countries. One incredible achievement. πŸ§‘πŸ’š

Give Gillian a huge round of applause β€” an inspiration to everyone at QRC! πŸ‘πŸŽ‰

πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ Run For All – Altra Yorkshire 10 Mile
πŸ“ York Racecourse | πŸ—“οΈ Sunday 19th October 2025

A great day for Queensbury RC in York at this year’s Altra Yorkshire 10 Mile! The iconic course starts and finishes at York Racecourse, taking runners past the historic Minster and out through the picturesque Yorkshire countryside before looping back for a grandstand finish.

Flying the green and orange with pride, we had four fantastic performances:

πŸ’š Lucy Cottam – 1:22:31 (Chip)
A brilliant, well-paced run from Lucy, showing strong form and composure all the way through.

🧑 Martin Sellors – 1:33:35 (Chip)
Another consistent performance from Martin, taking 18th in his MV65 category – superb effort!

πŸ’š Rob Glover – 1:39:35 (Chip)
Great work from Rob, running steady and strong on this undulating 10-mile route.

🧑 Jane Skudder – 2:07:03 (Chip)
A huge personal milestone for Jane as this was her longest race to date, and she absolutely smashed it! Fantastic determination and spirit from start to finish.

A big well done to all our runners for representing Queensbury with pride and enthusiasm β€” another brilliant day for the club! πŸ§‘πŸ’š
