Thanks to Bev for her write up of the recent race the lights;

Multiple QRC runners took on Fylde Runners “Race the Lights 5k and 10k” on Saturday 15th August. The race starts at 9pm, just as it’s getting dark to allow runners run along the prom under the Blackpool Illuminations, passing famous landmarks such as the Blackpool Tower and Pleasure Beach. Over 3000 runners took part, cheered on by friends, family and revellers.

Not only is it a fun event but it’s a flat out and back making it excellent PB territory. It’s chip timed and runners receive a snazzy glow in the dark medal for their efforts. Although some of us pimped our shirts with fairy lights, tacky gear isn’t compulsory 😆 As the name suggests, 5k and 10k routes are available.

Apologies for not getting everyone in the photo. Unfortunately, it was quite crowded. Not pictured are Glenn and Matt Thornton and Martin Firth.

Entries are open for next year with discounts available for multiple entries. Well worth doing whether you’re an experienced runner or new to racing.

York 10k 1st August 2026

It has been described as one of the country’s most beautiful city runs. Since its launch in 2009, the event has also grown into one of Yorkshire’s most popular 10Ks.

The York 10K offers runners the unique opportunity to race through the heart of this wonderful city.

The route starts and finishes in Knavesmire Road, close to York Racecourse. It then takes in some of the city’s most historic landmarks, including the ancient city walls, Clifford’s Tower and the minster.

Rob and Jane raced for QRC and looked to have enjoyed their runs

Rob 1:00:55

Jane 1:15:34

Well done to you both

A huge thank you from the Race Committee to everyone who helped make Sunday's Yorkshire Veterans race possible.

To all of our marshals who stood out on the course, the volunteers in the kitchen keeping everyone fed and watered, and the many helpers working behind the scenes, thank you for giving up your time to support the event.

A special mention to Colin Sutcliffe for taking charge of the gazebo setup and organisation, and an enormous thank you to Peter Hughes for strimming and clearing the paths. The course was virtually impassable in places beforehand, and without Peter's hard work the event simply could not have gone ahead.

Thank you also to Nicola, David and Robin for coordinating the marshals and helping ensure everything ran smoothly throughout the day.

Thank you to Nicola sorting out the race licence and loading with the council - an unenviable task.

Finally, thank you to all the other volunteers and helpers who have contributed in ways big and small. If we've accidentally missed anyone, please know that your efforts are hugely appreciated.

Events like this only happen because of the incredible support of our members and volunteers. Thank you all for helping make it such a success.
