Sunday we headed for the tarmac (well mainly tarmac). 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

A definite theme of A’s this weekend, two Andrew’s Saturday and Andy and Aaron Sunday 😂

Aaron Bower and Andy Sales were at Selby Striders Running Club 10K, a fast, flat course with plenty of people chasing PBs.

Mr 10K himself, Andy, had a great run, finishing P12 overall. Meanwhile, Aaron showed us how to pace to perfection with negative 5k splits, a PB… and he only went and won the race in just over 35 mins! 🏆👏

And then, having only been back in England a week after their trip down under (yes, Sydney Marathon really wasn’t that long ago! 😂), Dawn Higgins and Mike Farrell headed off to BERLIN-MARATHON . 🇩🇪
That’s Major No. 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️ for them!

Apparently it’s the last one… but give them a week and we’re expecting the next trip to be booked. ✈️
They went for the experience and both absolutely loved it, minus the small matter of the pain cave! 😬

Meanwhile a little closer to home and not quite on the tarmac we had Chris Lane at Hopton 10K trail race, his first race after a two-year hiatus and two operations. He’s building the fitness back up and, most importantly, back repping the Puma colours. 🐯

🐯 Pumas Weekly Roundup 🐯

Kicking things off, we had the last chance to gather points at Nostell Parkrun and Louise and David Natress, along with Jason Brown, maximised those final points. Well done, team! 👏🏼

In total, we had 54 Pumas at 21 locations, including Richard Haydock and Martin England taking top spots at their respective locations. Well done, chaps! 💪🏼

🍕☕ In other important news…

On Saturday, our Treasurer, Andrew Mellor, took on the Altra 5 Valleys Ultra hosted by 13 Valleys Ultra in the Lake District a rather tasty 58km with 2,300m+ of vert!

Andrew admitted to having a couple of battles with the headspace along the way, but found his strength in two things: pizza and a brew, quite possibly the best ultra fuel going. 😂🍕☕ He soaked up the views, enjoyed the experience and, most importantly, crossed that finish line with a smile. 🙌🏼

It seems it was a weekend for the Andrews!

Andrew Smith took on the RunThrough Ladybower 54K Ultra, making his way around the reservoir in the Peak District. No stranger to the PD, Andrew was treated to some cracking weather, enjoyed the hills and, unsurprisingly, made the most of those views with 5000ft climbing. ⛰️

A huge well done to everyone who got out there this weekend, and especially to both Andrews. We’re proud of you! 💪🏼🐯

What a fantastic evening representing the Pumas at the England Athletics Regional Volunteer Awards last night!

We are delighted to share that the club came away with two awards, recognising both the strength of our club and the dedication of our volunteers.

🥉 Place - Club of the Year
To be recognised as one of the top clubs in the region is a tremendous achievement and reflects the hard work, commitment and enthusiasm shown by our members, coaches, volunteers and committee. This award belongs to everyone who helps make the Pumas such a welcoming, supportive and successful club.

🏆 Unsung Hero Award - Jo Coupe
A huge congratulations to Jo, who received an Unsung Hero Award in recognition of her outstanding service, commitment and dedication to the club over recent years. Jo has worked tirelessly behind the scenes and has always been willing to step forward whenever help and leadership was needed. This award is thoroughly deserved, and we are incredibly grateful for everything she has done for the Pumas.

These awards are a reminder that our club's success is built on the passion, generosity and support of our amazing volunteers and members. We are incredibly proud of what we achieve together.

We will be looking to arrange a small celebration event in the near future to thank all of our volunteers. Without your time, commitment and support, the club simply would not thrive.

While the awards were presented to the club and to Jo, they are truly for every single one of you who gives your time to make the Pumas such a special club. Thank you for everything you do.

Thank you to England Athletics for a wonderful evening celebrating volunteers across our sport, and congratulations to all the other nominees and winners.

On Sunday, the latest race in the our Club Championship calendar took us to Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds for a 7 mile mixed terrain race. Runners ran along the riverside, canal and into the Abbey Grounds in search of those Championship points.

Well done to maximum club champ points awarded: Chris Newton 🥇(P3 overall and 1st M50), Demelza Bottomley 🥈, Natalie Provan 🥉and Jay Graham 💪🏻.

Copenhagen Half Marathon🇩🇰
Darren Attwood left the Yorkshire rolling hills and headed over in Denmark, to complete the Copenhagen Half Marathon, part of the SuperHalfs series. Darren not only met running royalty on Saturday but came away with a shiny new Half Marathon PB. Well done Darren.

Brontë Trail Half Marathon
On Sunday, a trio of our ladies took on the Bronte Half Marathon, a hilly trail route deep in the heart of Bronte country. We understand arm bands may have been appropriate at times! 🌧️ Well done to Becky Judd, Nicola Rathbone and Sue Tozer. It looks like you had plenty of Type 2 Fun out ont’ moors.

Another busy weekend of racing starting with Saturday and none other than our weekend fix of Parkrun.

We had 53 Pumas out and about this week at various Parkrun events in various degrees of Autumn weather. Furthest afield this weekend were Darren and Gail who met Dame Kelly Holmes at Amager Strandpark in Denmark 🧜‍♀️🇩🇰 whilst Richard ventured to Milano Nord in Italy taking a respectable 3rd place 🥉🇮🇹
A little closer to home we had 🥇 Jordan Smith – Halifax 🥈 Steve Earle – Horton Park and 🥉 Declan Baxter – Horton Park.

Championship points were still up for grabs at Nostell with 5 Pumas getting times in the bag. Well done Paul Wilson, Keith Birkhead, Anita Hewitt, Wendy Hewitt and Abi Wilson and Paul Stockdale. Don't forget, your last chance to grab points this weekend.

It's Grim Up North Running - Oktoberfest
On Saturday over in Leeds, two of our C25K graduates completed their very first 10k races. Congratulations to both Helen Donoghue and Michelle Oldham - huge achievement, the first of many more to come we're sure 🙌🏻

Heights Ultra Trail 50km
Where else would we find our Julie Bowman on a Saturday morning in September but in the Hills around Holmfirth taking on the HUT Ultra Trail 50km. Julie found the going tough, battling against wind, rain and mud, making progress tough going. Julie kept going to end to place 7th Female overall and 2nd in her age category. Well done Julie 🥈.

⛰️ YORKSHIREMAN OFF-ROAD RACING ⛰️

Rounding off Sunday’s antics, we had a firm favourite in the racing calendar. The Yorkshireman 26.2 miles beautiful miles with roughly 3,065ft of ascent thrown in. ⛰️😮‍💨

Huge well done to our Pumas taking on the full marathon:

Unfortunately, Sarah and Neal DNF’d, but still gave it their all out there, we’re sure they’ll be back to tackle it again. 👏🏻

Richard Haydock – P6 — is there anything this guy can’t do?!

🥇 Elizabeth Mcdonnell – F50 & 8th female - Liz, who’s apparently never running a marathon again, then goes and wins her age category. 😝

Richard was buzzing and here’s his thoughts:

“I found YORM truly special, as someone who’s a bit of a pavement princess and normally sticks to tarmac, it was nice to get out doing something completely different and slightly out of my comfort zone. Despite getting lost a couple of times, one small fall and getting stung by nettles, I found it absolutely fantastic and I can’t wait to do it again!”

And our half marathoners…cough 15 milers with a spicy 1600+ft climbing:

Gail Bailey, Keith Birkhead, Nathan Davies, Natalie Provan and Martin Whittaker.

Equally as challenging, more so, some would say, with more elevation per mile than the full marathon, so they got it easy. 😝

Everyone tackled the climbs, the terrain and the ever-changing weather that turned out so humid on Sunday.

🐯 PUMAS OUT IN FORCE THIS WEEKEND! 🐯

Another busy Sunday of racing, with Pumas taking on everything from fast, flat road miles to moorland marathons and the mighty Great North Run. 👏🏻

Kicking Sunday off with the road miles, we had…

🏃‍♂️ YORK HALF MARATHON & YVAA CHAMPIONSHIP
Deke Banks, Martin England and Gordon Brown took on the York Half Marathon, which also doubled up as a Yorkshire Veterans Athletic Association championship race.

A fast, flat road half and their times were great, even if they all didn’t agree with us! Great work, well done chaps! 👏🏻

🏃‍♂️ GREAT NORTH RUN
And then it was time for the mighty Great North Run! 🎉🐯

A huge well done to Victoria Stone, Louise Hayton, Richard Young, Rick Craven, Dan Hill, Alan Sykes and Andrew Mellor for taking on the iconic 13.1 miles from Newcastle to South Shields.

Sunshine ☀️, 60,000+ runners, roaring crowds, the Tyne Bridge and that unmistakable Great North Run atmosphere, plenty to keep the adrenaline flowing all the way to the finish! 👏🏻

You’ve put the miles in, taken on one of the biggest half marathons around and made it to that final stretch at the coast. Huge well done Pumas 🌊

🇩🇪 MUNSTER MARATHON
Taking it international, we had Stephen Earle and Lisa Hirst flying through the city streets at the Munster Marathon in Germany! 🌍🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

A good, flat course despite the rain and they both ran brilliantly. Lisa showing us how it’s done with a 🥈 in F45, bagging herself a nice little cash prize to enjoy post-race while taking in some of the city. 👏🏻💰

Not a bad way to combine a race with a little European sightseeing! 🍻✈️

Pumas have been out in force… it’s exhausting listening to all their achievements 🥳

Last Wednesday was the latest Club Champs race with our 3K Track Race. Unfortunately, timing hindered the turnout due to tapering for the weekend’s antics.

Fortunately for the three musketeers who turned up, they maximised their points. Huge well done to:

🥈 Richard Haydock – 10:21
🥉 Stuart Thornton – 14:00

On Saturday, there were 43 Pumas out across 19 different locations, including England, Scotland and Wales. 🌍

No entries at Nostell, so no points this weekend for anyone on parkrun champs.

And a special mention for Simon Wilkinson and Richard Young at Hartlepool, with Simon keen to share that he’d beaten “the man, the myth, the legend” definitely bragging rights for five minutes! 😂

Shout out to Martin Klavon, who bagged 🥈 at Watergrove! 👏🏻

🏃‍♀️LEEDS COUNTRY WAY RELAY 2026 🏃‍♂️

Last Sunday, we had 24 Pumas that headed over to Leeds to represent the club at the fantastic Leeds Country Way Relay! Hosted by Kippax Harriers

64 miles of tracks, fields and footpaths, split into six legs of around 9–11 miles, with two Pumas teams taking on the challenge!
