Hello everyone
Many thanks indeed to Dave Barnes for sponsoring the day and lovely to see our 2026 FGS Captain all present and correct handing out the prizes. The weather on the day could have been a lot worse than it was, but the scoring overall was generally a lot lower than normal.
Congratulations to Phil on his runaway victory, and to Damo who narrowly pipped Steve into second place on countback. Phil will be cut by 3 shots and Damo by one for their next outing.
Luckily for all those scoring 27 points or less, they will get 0.3 back on their handicap, which for some will mean a full shot next time.
The website ( https://drinkybeer.wixsite.com/fox-golf-society/copy-of-2025 ) has been updated with the full results, write-up of the day and photos.

It's only 6 weeks to our next and important 100th event for The Fox Golf Society.
So we can plan as much as we can prior to the event, it would be very helpful if you haven't done so already, to let me know (email:- [email protected]) if you intend to play (as an individual or with others as a team)
Many thanks.

Hello everyone
Thanks to all those who attended The Turkey Shoot on Friday, I hope you all enjoyed it, and special thanks to John Binder, Tony Greenfield and Bob Barnes who sponsored the event.
I think you'll all agree that Canons Brook looked after us very well on the day, yet again.
The results are on our website, and for those who are interested (or not), here are some stats on the day…
Although there was some great scoring, no team actually managed to birdie the 3rd, 9th or 15th.
In total we managed 33 birdies, 94 pars, 15 bogies and tragically 2 double bogies (both on par 3's), I'm ashamed to admit one of which was by my team. Sadly, the other cost their team 1st place (but nobody blames you Jason ... honestly).

The Porter Platter at Nazeing on 19th September was a great success with lots of good scores on a very well maintained course. Full Results and Photos are on our website ( https://drinkybeer.wixsite.com/fox-golf-society ) and are attached to this post.
Mark Clanford became the 2nd left-hander to win the trophy - Tony Porter himself won the very first event all those years ago.
The first three scores were Mark 37 points, Dave Barnes 36 points and Daren Olley 35 points. Daren's son Tom won the guest prize with 33 points off 7 handicap. The Olleys captured the nearest the pin prizes - Tom on the 2nd and Daren on the 15th. Well done Daren & Tom.
Our perennial "nearest in two" winner John "Bryson" Binder did it again on the 17th. Is there no stopping him?!
Many thanks to Jason Noel for providing the much-appreciated prizes and as usual Dave Matthews for his generous handicapping and immaculate recording.
The next and final match of the FGS Season is the usual Texas Scramble format for the Turkey Shoot so please get your entries and teams of four in as soon as possible. It's £55 for FGS Members and £65 for Guests. We can make up teams as necessary.
Hopefully the invincibles, James AR, Josh F, Michael T and guest Chris Warner will be facing some strong competition. Three wins in a row would be ( # # # # # # # # # etc). - a bottle of wine for the best email suggestion.
Coffee & bacon rolls from 8am followed by a 2-tee start - 1st tee 6 tee times from 9am, 8th tee 4 tee times from 8.58am So a maximum of 40 entries due to member pressure on a Friday morning. We'll have the usual buffet dinner after the golf.
Many thanks to Canons Brook for being so accommodating as usual.
Finally, Bob Barnes would like to mention Dave Matthews again. Dave has kindly offered to take over the emailing and other Secretarial duties. So thank you Dave for giving Bob a break after 15 years or so.
If anybody would like to take over as Treasurer or take on any other role (Committee etc.?) please let us know.
We have a meeting next week and shall start working on the agenda for the AGM which usually takes place in The Fox towards the end of January. All thoughts, suggestions and agenda items welcome.

The Binder Builders Claret Jug - please note the correct date - Friday July 11th 2025
Good evening all.
My most humble apologies but I have managed pull off another date c**k up (Sorry Adi, this is the only possible description).
The published date for The Jug was July 4th but it should have been a week later. Apologies if this mean anybody cannot make it. Also breakfast is earlier at 8 and the first tee off at 9.05
Confirmation of costs and other key details such as buggies for The Jug will come out tomorrow.
Please note that Canons Brook is asking for confirmation of numbers by July 4th at the very latest. So no late entries allowed.
Again, apologies for the wrong date.

Many congratulations to Andrew Stevenson on his victory at Toot Hill on Friday 30th May in the FGS Byford Trophy match. A beautiful day and an excellent course. Well done to Michael Taylor for denying John Binder a clean sweep of all the Nearest The Pins, although John's stunning 2nd shot to within 6 inches of the hole on the 18th was remarkable! Many thanks to FGS Vice Captain Dave Hunt for sponsoring the day.
Full results and photos of the day (and all FGS matches going back to the very beginning in 2010) are now on our website - use this link:- https://drinkybeer.wixsite.com/fox-golf-society
The next FGS Match is the Binder Builder's Claret Jug on the 4th July at Canons Brook Golf Club. Full details are on our website and an email will be sent out nearer the time.
