Ladies, let’s talk about why we really strength train. 💕

It’s easy to get caught up in numbers on a scale or chasing personal bests, but the real magic of building strength happens in our everyday lives:

✨ Squats keep your hips, knees, and pelvic floor strong, so getting up with ease is second nature as you age.

✨ Deadlifts protect your back when you’re scooping up grandkids, carrying all the shopping bags in one trip, or moving furniture around the house.

✨ Overhead presses keep your shoulders healthy and strong so you can reach for that top shelf without a second thought.

✨ Lunges build strong legs and balance, making the stairs feel effortless.

✨ Jumps & quick steps protect your bone density and give you the reaction time to catch yourself if you ever slip or trip.

Strength isn't about shrinking ourselves or spending hours exhausted on a treadmill. It’s about building a body that carries you through every stage of life feeling capable, empowered, and energised.

It’s not just exercise, it's training to live well so you can truly love your life. 🌸

How many of these 4 everyday movement checks can you do without struggling? 👇

Longevity and mobility aren't measured by how much weight you can lift in a gym, they start with the fundamental ways your body moves through daily life.

Swipe through below to test yourself:

1️⃣ The Standing Sock Test: Putting a sock on while balancing on one leg without holding onto a wall. Single-leg stability is one of the clearest indicators of long-term balance and longevity.

2️⃣ The Deep Flat-Footed Squat: Resting in a deep squat with both heels completely flat on the floor. This tests essential ankle dorsiflexion, hip mobility, and posterior chain health.

3️⃣ The Hands-Free Floor Rise: Getting up off the floor without using your hands, knees, or nearby furniture. It tests total-body strength, power, and coordination all at once.

4️⃣ A Firm Grip: Grip strength isn't just about hands, it strongly correlates with cardiovascular health, neurological function, and healthy aging.

If you felt wobbly, stiff, or couldn't quite manage one, that’s completely fine. The good news? You can rebuild your strength at any stage of life!

The Missing Link in Women’s Fitness: Why I Became a Menopause Coach

For years, the fitness industry sold women a simple formula: do more cardio, eat less, and sweat it out. 🙈 Cardio is good for you but now you need more than just cardio...!

Why... because perimenopause hits.

Suddenly, the workouts that used to work lead to exhaustion, stubborn joint pain, erratic sleep, and stalled progress. That’s because as oestrogen levels drop, our physiology changes fundamentally. We lose lean muscle mass faster (sarcopenia), our bone density declines, and our recovery windows stretch out.

That is why I chose to specialise as a Menopause Coach and why strength training isn’t just an option during this phase of life; it’s an absolute superpower.

Why Strength Training Matters in Menopause:

💪 Protects Bone Density: Decreasing oestrogen accelerates bone loss. Heavy, progressive resistance training stimulates bone remodeling, directly fighting osteopenia and osteoporosis.

🧩 Preserves Muscle & Metabolic Health: Muscle is our metabolic currency. Lifting weights helps manage insulin resistance, maintain lean mass, and support joint integrity.

🧠 Brain & Mood Support: The endorphins and nervous-system adaptations from lifting heavy weights offer a grounded, empowering counterweight to brain fog, anxiety, and fatigue.

👭 Coaching women through this transition isn’t about running them into the ground—it’s about training smarter. It means programming for recovery, prioritising form, and tailoring nutrition and lifestyle habits to work with changing hormones, not against them.

You don’t have to accept slowing down, feeling fragile, or battling your body. You just need the right strategy and the right support.

If you’re navigating perimenopause or menopause and wondering how to start or adapt your training to feel strong, capable, and confident again, my DMs are always open. Let’s build strength that lasts.

When it comes to strength training, it's easy to think you're bored, but really, you just haven't given it enough time.

You don't need a new exercise or fitness class every week. 🙈

You need to get stronger at the same few exercises, week after week. That's how real progress happens.💪 We need to target your major muscle groups 2-3 times a week! That's it!

Ready to build strength in the comfort of your own home? Skip the crowded gym and expensive machines. With just a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, you have everything you need to get real results at home.

Drop me a message for a free consultation. I have face to face and online options available!

The 4 movement patterns every woman over 40 should know 💪

If you’re new to strength training, knowing which exercises to do is a great place to start. But knowing how to put them together into a programme that works for you is where things get interesting.

These four movement patterns are the foundations of strength training and cover all the ways the body moves under load:

🩷 Squat – Build lower-body strength for everyday movement.

🩷 Hinge – Strengthen your posterior chain and learn to move with confidence.

🩷 Push – Build upper-body strength for lifting, carrying and daily life.

🩷 Pull – Strengthen your back, arms and posture.

But how do you know which exercises to choose? How many sets and reps should you do? How often should you train? And how do you progress when it starts to feel easier?

That’s where a well-designed programme makes all the difference.

At PM Strength, I help women over 40 build strength with a plan tailored to their goals, experience and where they are right now.

No complicated workouts. No guesswork. Just a clear, progressive approach to becoming stronger and more confident.

Save this post for your next workout and message me on here if you’d like help working out what your own strength programme should look like. 🩷
