Stress is ok, it can be helpful to give us a kick up the bum to get something done.
Chronic stress is not ok, being in fight/flight mode for more than 20 minutes can significantly affect our mental and physical health.
Good news! Yoga - the movements, the breath, the mindfulness, the philosophy. It all helps to bring us out of fight/flight and into a rest/digest state. (Scientifically proven)

We’ve covered a lot about the brain and how chronic stress can affect our mental health. Then of course we cover how yoga practices, such as breathing exercises and mindfulness can help us.

We covered the basics of the HPA axis at relax and Read last week. That is how the brain responds to stress and ultimately releases stress hormones creating the fight/flight response.
This is ok when the stress is short lived, but chronic stress creates a level with the feedback loop and our brain struggles to switch off that stress response.
The good news is that lots of the practices in Yoga can help. Come along to Relax and Read , my weekly Yoga for all class or my upcoming Yoga Workshop for Mental Health to learn more

Yoga is so much more than stretching. It affects our brain function, nervous system, endocrine system, muscles and joints and helps our body and mind deal with daily stress.
I am really interested in the science behind yoga, and in this workshop I'll go into how yoga practice can help us in our day-to-day lives to make positive changes to our mental health.
