ADHD + HYROX = šŸ¤”

After officially being diagnosed with Combined ADHD - what came before that was lots of questions around specific behaviours, especially linked to my training with HYROX.

I started to notice patterns of behaviour that upon research, are incredibly common with ADHD. Whether that be hyper focus on race day, not really feeling too much pressure on big occasions or simply not celebrating achievements…

There are lots of highs and lows with ADHD & their relationship with our health and fitness… and after quite a few requests, I’m here to start discussing them 🫔

THE ADHD DIARIES #2 šŸ¤

Officially boxed off just over a week of Elvanse and we have been experiencing a fair few things… let’s talk through them 🧠

Surprisingly, despite my past dependence on an emotional support red bull or Monster, right now I have no need or desire to consume either. Funny what happens when you replace a stimulant with meds that are stimulants… šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Appetite… womp womp. That’s not what I’m enjoying at the moment. When you have a fast metabolism, and you burn a lot of calories a day, not having the ability to put them back in because your appetite barely exists hasn’t been fun. I’ve been in a deficit since I started the meds, and it’s not been what I wanted… so we are looking at changing that, or seeing the patterns that perhaps cause that too.

Clarity and focus - two things I have seen a subtle change in, but where the nutrition isn’t quite where I want it, I think that’s where it’s suffering slightly. If I can get my nutrition back up - let’s see if that changes.

Dosage increase from Friday. 30mg now to 50mg Friday, and I will be intrigued to see if the increased dosage heightens the issues I’ve had or brings me back down to a level playing field…

Still open minded. Still trusting the process for now. We keep it moving.

THE ADHD DIARIES šŸ“– #1

Friday was Day 1 of me officially starting medication for my ADHD. Some of you know that in January, I was diagnosed with Combined ADHD - and since then, I’ve been on the waitlist for medication.

After titration, I was prescribed Elvanse, and the process begins now really…

ADHD was something I didn’t realise really affected lots of parts of my life, whether that be personally, professionally, financially - and I am using this space as a way to document how I’m finding the process. Once a week, I’ll post how my journey is going.

I know there are people on my page who also have ADHD. I know they’re people who have spoke to me about the process too… but here we are, raw, unedited, discussing the good, the bad and the ugly that comes with ADHD, living with it and how it can affect me day to day.

ANOTHER ONE BOXED OFF āœ…

More clips from a session last week, as we’ve began reintroducing strength training into the routine again.

Adjusting back to training post ultra was always going to take time, it was always going to be difficult and I’ve given myself grace and time for it. However, I’m finally in a position where I feel ready to kick on.

12 weeks from now, it’ll be Birmingham and I’ll be on the track racing with & racing with Simon, aiming to do them proud which is essentially a comeback to the sport after all the marathon antics šŸ˜…

One thing is for sure though, I need to be stronger & I need my speed back… so let’s get back to work 🫔

Kieren

JULY WAS AN ALL-TIMER šŸ˜…šŸ«¶

Every emotion under the sun was felt in this month. Anything you can think of, we’ve gone through it.

Biggest goals of my life - boxed off.
So much love and care around us.
So much support.
So much happiness.

July - you’ve still tested me so much. But, you’ve really shown me that life is worth living, and for that - I will look back on this month as an all-timer.

My business is growing day by day, my clients are all flying, goals have been set, established and roadmapped. What a second half of the year this will be 🫔

I am finally starting to understand the magnitude of my achievements this year, and just how mental I have been to do all that in 7 months šŸ˜…

No more holidays, for now… šŸ˜‰

BACK TO HYROX TRAINING ā³

The big distances are done. The marathon block is done. The ultra block is done. We’ve recovered, we’ve rested, we’ve healed…

Now we are officially back in the saddle, and welcome back to my training diaries šŸ‘€

Plenty of cussing, plenty of tough times but plenty of time back to myself, pushing to new heights. Officially back in a HYROX block courtesy of - and it’s time to get back to what I love to be the most…

Fast. Strong. Powerful. Leading from the front.

Watch this space.

FLASHBACK TO HYROX TIMES šŸ‘€

This photo was on the day of me and Liv’s mixed doubles race in Manchester, January of this year. I’ve never shared this photo publicly but what I can tell you is this:

I’d never looked leaner.
I’d never looked better.
I’d never been faster.
I’d never been stronger.

However, I do not look like this right now. 7 months has let my aerobic capacity grow beyond belief and mean I am the fittest I have ever been… but the body isn’t in a place I’m happy with. I’ve lost muscle. I’ve lost speed. I’ve lost the cutting edge… all things that were bound to happen, but now is the time to go back to the realm I was making moves in.

I think those around me, and those who are a sucker for hints, know that going back to HYROX for the next season was always the play… it’s where I’ve felt fittest, strongest and ultimately happiest with my mind and my body. I am so proud of my achievements this year, but what I’ve struggled to come to terms with is the changes I’ve had to make to get there. My body has had to change, my diet has had to change, my routine, my mind, all of it.

So now, why am I showing you this picture?

Me and Liv’s race was arguably the peak of my powers. My best Hyrox result in terms of time & having come after my Pro PB, it was also when I was most confident and secure in my performance. So I am sharing this as a benchmark, as a promise - that I will be back at that level, except bigger, stronger and greater.

I have been letting this come down do what it needs to do, and now, it’s time to take control and steer the ship to its next objective.

Eyes are on October, with doubles with Emily & Simon in HYROX Birmingham as well as a Hybrid Games doubles with Carlos.

I will not be letting them down. I will not be letting myself down. I will be leading by example, and taking them into some big races with me - and making them proud.

El Capitano. He’s back. He’s going to lead from the front - again.

Kieren
