Fulford Golf Club

Originally known as Fulford Heath, heather has long shaped the character of the course, shown here in full bloom behind the 9th green.

As summer is set to arrive in the UK, we look forward to mornings like these.

"The hardest hole on the card is the 13th and this could easily be the club's signature hole. It features out of bounds left, fairway bunkering and a sloping green so, if you can make a par at the nearly 500-yarder, you will have excelled.

This is called Weiskopf after the American holed a 1-iron for an eagle two – he’d already birdied the hole twice that week."

The first par five, and a long one, where a good straight drive is essential. Long hitters have the choice of carrying the far bunkers off the tee. Most players will aim for the narrow gap or will play short of the bunkers for safety.
