🧠 What if the problem isn't your discipline?

What if it's your nervous system?

This week on the Thrive Under Pressure Podcast, former Australian national swimmer and neurodivergent performance coach Brianna Donato joins me for a powerful conversation about ADHD, autism, masking, burnout, recovery, and performance.

We discuss:

βœ”οΈ Why so many neurodivergent people feel "different" but can't explain why
βœ”οΈ The hidden impact of masking
βœ”οΈ ADHD motivation, hyperfocus, and procrastination
βœ”οΈ Burnout and nervous system dysregulation
βœ”οΈ Sleep, recovery, and sustainable performance
βœ”οΈ Why hustle culture often does more harm than good
βœ”οΈ Supporting neurodivergent athletes, students, and high performers

One of the biggest takeaways:

"If you don't choose time to rest, your body will eventually choose it for you."

Whether you're an athlete, coach, parent, leader, teacher, or simply someone trying to perform at your best without burning out, this episode is packed with insights.

What was your biggest takeaway from the conversation?

Most people know they need to improve.

Few know how to take the first step.

Elite athlete and coach Khan Porter shares the powerful framework that has shaped his approach to performance, resilience, and personal growth:

πŸ”Ή Awareness
Be brutally honest about where you are right now.

πŸ”Ή Acceptance
Stop fighting reality and own your starting point.

πŸ”Ή Action
Build systems that help you move forward consistently.

The Three A's sound simple, but applying them can change everything.

Whether you're an athlete, leader, parent, or someone navigating a challenge, this conversation offers practical tools you can start using today.

What if your authenticity could redefine masculinity and mental health?

Have you ever felt the pressure to fit in? Or felt you couldn't be your authentic self due to fear of not fitting in or standing out?

From coaching to podcasting, I've seen how genuine conversations can break barriers.

This dance video Khan posted is an epic example of people actually admire when people own their identity and be themselves.

It's not about the views; it's about using our platforms to spark meaningful change.

Join me and Khan Porter as we explore staying true to ourselves in a world full of expectations.

Let's talk about it because your voice matters more than you think.

NEW PODCAST EPISODE: Khan Porter

He's competed at the CrossFit Games and trained as a psychotherapist. Then his own body forced a reckoning most high performers never see coming.

On this episode of the Thrive Under Pressure Podcast, Khan sits down with Dan Vann to unpack what happened when seven competitions across four countries in five months pushed him into a medical emergency, and what it taught him about staying whole under pressure.

Inside the conversation:
- Why a clear sense of who you are is the antidote to a loud, chaotic world
- The difference between playing a role and disappearing into it
- Why most advice is really just projection
- How "self-love" became one of the most misused ideas in mental health
- Using AI as a tool without letting it think for you

If you perform under pressure in sport, business, or life, this one is worth your time.

You are burning out because you are fighting reality. πŸ‘‡

Most people spend their entire lives trying to avoid the unavoidable or obtain the unobtainable. And then they wonder why they feel like they are suffocating under the weight of it all.

During the recent Thrive Under Pressure Next Level workshop, Jamie Milne Training broke down the exact science of stress.

If you are an athlete, a business owner, or leading a team, write this down. Pressure comes down to three variables:

1. Expectation
2. Consequences
3. Scrutiny

Look at the All Blacks. They face the media, the roaring crowd, the opposition, and their own massive internal standards. They feel the exact same three variables you do. The difference? They don't hide from them. They acknowledge the reality of the arena.

You can't change what you refuse to acknowledge. It's time to stop dodging the pressure and start managing the variables.

Which of those three variables is weighing the heaviest on you right now? Get ruthlessly honest and drop it in the comments. ⬇️

Pretty special weekend watching these two legends compete at πŸ‘

This time last year, things looked very different for after suffering a heart attack during competition weekend. To now see him qualify for the CrossFit Games Finals and finish 3rd against some of the best athletes in the world is incredibly inspiring.

Over the last year, Bayley has put in a huge amount of work behind the scenes not just physically, but mentally too.

A lot of our work together has focused around:
β€’ Breathing and nervous system regulation
β€’ Managing energy and recovery
β€’ Building clarity around competition
β€’ Tidying up mindset and mental skills processes
β€’ Learning how to acknowledge pressure without letting it become overwhelming

He’s always been someone capable of doing the hard things. The biggest shift has been creating better awareness, structure and trust in his process.

As a coach, I’m incredibly proud of Bayley and immensely grateful to play a small part in the journey. Watching all the hard work transfer onto the floor this weekend with some epic performances was awesome to see.

Also very cool seeing .cf out there competing alongside him and the progress he has made to become a genuine world class contender (way h this space) πŸ‘Š

The work continues πŸ”₯
