The Department of Conservation in conjunction with Ngai Tahu have announced ‘Te Au Roa o Te Rakihouia’ as the name for the Otago region’s new marine reserve network.
On 1 July 2026, five new marine reserves will come into effect along the Otago coast, protecting 308 km² (4%) of the region’s coastal marine area. These fully protected ‘no take’ spaces will help marine life and habitats recover and thrive.
DOC and Kāi Tahu will co-manage the reserves, sharing knowledge, decision-making, and on-the-ground care through a joint ranger team.

Heaviest Fish All species included – No sharks & Eels.
Prizegiving 30 th August – 6pm Clubrooms will be open from
430pm.
Fish must be weighed with certified club scales. Weigh masters
must have a photo of the angler and whole fish with tape measure

Tautuku Fishing Club Members Ladies Day Fishing Competition
Saturday 6th June.
(Postponement day Sunday 7th June)
Ladies, this one’s for you! We’d love to see all you amazing women get involved in this year’s Ladies Fishing Competition — a fun, friendly day out on the water designed especially for you.
Competition Details:
• The event will be held in the Otago Harbour
• 9am – 12 noon 3 hours of fishing within the harbour
• We’ll wrap up with prizegiving at Carey’s Bay Hotel
at 12:30 on Saturday 6 June.
Don’t have a boat? No problem at all — we’ll make sure you’re taken care of. Please contact Club Secretary and she’ll organise a spot for you. We can’t wait to see you out there, enjoying the harbour and having a fantastic day on the water. Tight lines and good vibes all round!

OMG ! Trent Anderson has done it again!! This time even heavier Bluefin Tuna caught off the Dunedin City Coastline; in the proposed SEMPA area, today 16/05/2026. This 125.7kg Bluefin Tuna 🍣 was shared amongst families and friends! Wow 🤩 cheers 🍻 guys! 🥰
