I had the incredible honor of leading a yoga practice on the morning of my niece’s wedding in Italy. I’ve taught thousands of yoga classes over the years, but sharing this practice with family and friends in a place so meaningful was truly something special.

12 years ago this month, I completed my yoga teacher training in India.
At the time, I had no idea where the journey would lead. I simply knew that yoga had changed my life, and I wanted to share it with others.
Since then, I’ve taught well over 10,000 classes—public classes, corporate classes, private sessions, goat yoga, workshops, and everything in between. I’ve practiced with thousands of students, heard countless stories, and learned as much from my students as they have from me.
A lot has changed in 12 years.
I’ve become a husband and a father. I’ve experienced incredible highs and some difficult challenges, including heart failure. I’ve learned that yoga is about so much more than poses. It’s about resilience, presence, community, gratitude, and showing up for life exactly as it is.
The practice that brought me to India all those years ago continues to evolve. Today it influences not only how I move, but how I parent, garden, bake, connect with others, and live each day.
To every student, teacher, mentor, friend, and family member who has been part of this journey—thank you.
12 years later, I’m still learning, still growing, and still grateful to share this practice.

Welcome to the world, Arabella Vita!
Our family is overjoyed and grateful by this one ❤️
What a year it has been. A year of growth, surrender, prayer, change, challenge, gratitude, and love. And now, on Earth Day, our beautiful daughter Arabella Vita entered the world.
Her name already carries so much meaning to us.
“Arabella” means beautiful, loving, and yielded to prayer. “Vita” means life, and is also in honor of my father, Vito — a name that carries family, roots, strength, and love through generations.
To my yoga community: thank you for walking this journey with me through all the seasons this past year. Through movement, breath, stillness, faith, and connection, you have all been part of this chapter in ways you may never fully realize.

Little daily goal I’m working on lately: 10,000 steps a day. This screenshot is straight from my phone—no fancy tracker needed. Most phones already count your steps, which makes it super easy to keep an eye on movement throughout the day.
I’m trying to walk more, be more intentional about moving, and see how often I can hit that 10,000-step mark. Some days are easier than others, but it all adds up.
If you’ve been looking for a simple way to move more, start with what’s already in your pocket.

Hi friends It’s been a little quiet over here, so I wanted to reintroduce myself.
I’m Joe aka Yoga Joe, a yoga teacher who truly believes in movement, breath, and yoga as something that meets you exactly where you are. Life gets full, seasons shift, and I don’t always post as often as I’d like but this year I’m feeling called to show up more, share more, and stay connected.
While I don’t teach many public classes, you can find me every Saturday morning:
🧘♀️ 8:30am at Crunch – West Ashley
🐐 10:30am Goat Yoga in Summerville (yes, it’s as fun and grounding as it sounds)
Whether you practice with me in person, follow along here, or are just quietly part of this space — I’m grateful you’re here. Here’s to moving, breathing, and growing together this year 🤍

This NYC Christmas tree photo has marked our journey together for over two decades—a pause to breathe, reflect, and honor how far we’ve come. This photo has become our yearly ritual.
Wishing you a New Year filled with deep breaths, steady roots, and moments that feel like home.
Happy New Year!

So much has changed in the last month since having heart failure. Things look and feel different lugging around this medicine bag and wearing a defriblerator whereever I go, but I have the prayers and thoughts of so many that keep me going each day. Please continue your prayers!

After 17 days in the hospital, 11 of which were in the ICU, I was released Monday. The road to recovery is still a long one ahead. Due to a genetic condition, I very suddenly and unexpectedly went into heart failure. The doctors have been able to get me stable enough to go home with medication, but unfortunately one of those medicines my heart needs, can only be delivered through IV so while I am out of the hospital I still will not be teaching yoga for some time. I am so grateful to all of my loyal students, some of whom have been taking classes with me for close to a decade, for all of the love and support and prayers you’ve provided me and my family during this time. I am so grateful for my wife Erin and my family for all care, help and love through this either process.
I am not sure yet when I will be back to teaching, but I look forward to seeing you all on the mat one day. Namaste 🙏🏼
