In Plum Village communities around the world, we practice not only to be mindful of the food, but also of our spiritual friends sitting with us. Sharing a meal together is not just to sustain our bodies and celebrate life’s wonders, but also to experience freedom, joy, and the happiness of sisterhood, brotherhood, and siblinghood, during the whole time of eating.
Here are all of the Five Contemplations Before Eating:
This food is a gift of the earth, the sky, numerous living beings, and much hard and loving work.
May we eat with mindfulness and gratitude so as to be worthy to receive this food.
May we recognize and transform unwholesome mental formations, especially our greed and learn to eat with moderation.
May we keep our compassion alive by eating in such a way that reduces the suffering of living beings, stops contributing to climate change, and heals and preserves our precious planet.
We accept this food so that we may nurture our brotherhood and sisterhood, build our Sangha, and nourish our ideal of serving all living beings.

Our Yoga in Andalucia retreat 2 weeks ago was amazing. First, all the students are always so enjoyable to be with and I love how people become fast friends. Our venue, Santillan Retreat was set in the hills above Malaga with sea views. It's state of the art yoga studio was a dream to practice in for all of us. Our chef, Javier Luque Guzman was awesome and in addition to cooking delicious and nutritious food, he also gave us a sound bath one evening. We hiked the Caminito del Rey which was one of the most stunning hikes in the world. We visited Nerja and the caves which were much more massive than you would imagine. Also visited Mijas and Frigiliana, 2 more white villages that are so pretty. We ended the week at Restaurante Vino Mio for a fabulous dinner and flamenco show. The history and the influence of the Moors makes this region of Spain so unique and interesting. I'm so glad we were able to spend a week soaking all of it up. Would love to visit again!

‘My Philosophy of Teaching Yoga in Eight Parts’
On our yoga & mindfulness retreat, our first full day was in Amalfi exploring the village, walking up to the cemetery and down to Atrani and back to Amalfi for a tour of the lemon farm. Lemon cake, lemonade, limoncello 😋…fortunately the rain held off until the afternoon but we hid away in restaurants having lunch.
Arrival at Villa San Giacomo on Thursday for the Enchanted in Amalfi Yoga & Mindfulness Retreat. There may have been cloudy skies, but the beauty of the Villa snd Positano shined through.
