No one talks enough about the grief that can come with becoming a Single Mom by Choice.
We grow up believing motherhood will look a certain way, finding a partner, building a life together, and having children as a team. When life unfolds differently, it’s normal to grieve the path you imagined.
I felt this at different stages of my journey, even during pregnancy. Because the truth is: grief and gratitude can exist at the same time. Your story may look different than you expected, but that doesn’t make it any less beautiful. 💛
If this is something you're navigating right now, you're not alone.
This is exactly the kind of thing I cover in a chapter in my book, Choice Mom. You don't have to process this on your own.

It was a Saturday during my first egg freezing cycle. 🤍
Just days earlier I’d been told more follicles were growing. Then suddenly a nurse called and said they were planning to retrieve only two, maybe three eggs — and that I needed to trigger that night.
I asked if we could wait. She said no. Two, maybe three eggs, and we didn’t even know if they’d be viable. Something didn’t sit right.
I asked to speak to my doctor before making a $10,000 decision. I was told it was the weekend and my doctor wasn’t reachable.
That was it for me. I wasn’t doing anything until I spoke to my doctor. So I walked out. And I knew I wasn’t going back.
A few hours later my doctor called, confirmed the nurse never should have pushed me, and offered me a full refund. I switched clinics entirely.
The new clinic was a completely different experience — better communication, more support, real answers to my questions. But the outcome still wasn’t the fairytale ending I hoped for. I ended up with two eggs frozen either way. So I decided to become a single mother by choice. I didn’t want to miss my window.
What I learned wasn’t really about the number. It was learning to advocate for myself, every step of the way — even when it’s uncomfortable, even when you’re scared of “wasting” what you’ve already invested.
If something feels off — you’re allowed to stop, ask questions, and walk away. 🤍
Drop a 🤍 if you’ve ever had to trust your gut over someone else’s timeline.
I remember sitting alone in a fertility clinic, trying to hold it together while couples sat around me, hand in hand. My path to motherhood wasn’t conventional. It was paved with heartbreak, infertility, and fear of pushback from a community that didn’t understand why a woman like me would choose to become a mom on her own.
But here’s the truth: I didn’t settle. I stopped waiting. I made the hardest and best decision of my life.
In embracing the possibility of a nontraditional family, I discovered a level of strength I never knew I possessed. And I wrote Choice Mom so you could find yours too — because this path is hard, but it’s also beautiful, liberating, and entirely yours to define.
