This is the part of the journey almost no one prepares you for.

Everyone talks about the logistics, the clinics, the donors, the finances. Nobody warns you about the quiet sadness that can show up right alongside your certainty.

I remember wondering what was wrong with me: I was finally on the path to becoming a mom, the thing I'd wanted for years. Why wasn't I just… happy?

Because the decision can be RIGHT and still come with grief. Grief for the partner who was supposed to be beside you.

For the shared moments you'd imagined a thousand times. For the version of the story you grew up believing, the one every movie and every wedding promised you.

Letting go of that story hurt more than I expected. But here's what I learned: mourning the old dream is not a sign you're choosing the wrong one. It's how you make room for the new one.

If you're in this season right now, sure of your choice but crying anyway, nothing is wrong with you. Your sadness is not a sign to turn back. It's a sign you're human. 🤍

What part of "the fairy tale" was hardest for you to release? (Or is it still?) I read every comment, and I promise you're in good company here.

The reactions we get when we first tell our families? Not always the supportive ones we’re hoping for 😅

In this week’s Ask The Coach, Reema Mel talk about our experiences sharing this path with our family.

For Reema, it wasn’t a speech that changed her family’s minds. It was watching her try, and being there for the heartbreak when it didn’t go to plan, that moved them from doubt to “whatever makes you happy, we’ll support it.” And now? Her daughter is the love of their lives.

For Mel, there was no single big conversation at all. Just years of “maybe I’ll do it, what do you think?” until her parents were already on the journey beside her.

Same destination. Two very different roads to get there.

Reema shares the full story, and how to have these conversations, in her book Choice Mom: An Empowering Guide to Becoming a Single Mother by Choice, out now on Amazon.

Did your family come around? What was the moment it shifted for them? We’d love to hear 🩷
