Hot night at Best Book Club with a lovely crowd and lots of recommendations. Perhaps one for "review of the year" (I my book anyway - pun intended) and a request for a book club extra so a walk is planned (see separate post). All round a great night and we finished on time!

My theme was "Don't judge a book by its cover" as my reviews were for books given to my daughter and wife...both did not hit the mark...at least the soft p**n was read by the wife! Welcome to Sally to the Best Book Club!

CBBC's Race Across The World (new competition) - Send us a photograph of a book that you are reading in a location that is relevant to the book in some way (UK or abroad). You may well earn yourself a much coveted CBBC certificate at the end of the rear.
First entry is of Treasure Island outside The Hole in the Wall pub in Bristol. Originally called the Coach and Horses, it is now named after the spy hole that it had so that occupants could look out for the Royal Navy and ship owners searching the area to 'press gang' men into signing up for long sea voyages to America and the Caribbean. Robert Louis Stevenson is reputed to have stayed here for two months whilst writing Treasure Island using local people and locations for inspiration for the novel's characters and settings

Belated March Book Club books...it was a fast paced and fun meeting and we just about ducked under the 21:00 finishing tape. Some recommendations and one that was so bad it had the "Adelle treatment" as was shredded to protect further readers. Read on to discover who made most of the group wince as reading matter was pulled apart!

Next Best Book Club meeting is Thursday 12th March @ 19:00 @ My Coffee on Bath Road Cheltenham. All are welcome and perhaps we will discuss how fact met fiction as Comfy Monkey made the news this week! My own story of crime and kidnap in sleepy Cheltenham, Comfy Monkey, considered the phenomenon in the news that we sometimes need a Comfy Monkey in our lives. Just bring a book to review and share (if you like) and hear what others have been reading recently.
