Can I be honest with you for a second?

I was that person who...every damn year...told herself this will be the Summer I would lose the unwanted body fat & tone up so that I could:

- Wear the vest tops without giving a toot how my arms looked.

- Pull on my denim shorts without sucking everything in, only to spend the day with that metal button digging into my stomach. Ouch!

So I'd start eating less & doing more cardio.

All the while, Summer was happening...

BBQs, wine in the garden with friends, holidays, meals out & ice creams with the kids.

Before I knew it, by September I was back where I started...plus a bit more 🫣

It turns out it wasn't actually a 'Me' problem: I was just tripping myself up trying to drop fat in a way that didn't fit how my life looked.

I didn't need another bloody diet!

I needed an approach that helped me lose fat, tone up the bits that needed it & live a healthier lifestyle WITHOUT sacrificing the fun Summer stuff 😎

Cut back on the alcohol.

Why?

Alcohol = extra empty calories

It slows down fat burning

It messes with our sleep

It upsets the neurotransmitters in our brain responsible for mood (hello anxiety & feeling low!)

It lowers our willpower (hello, late-night snacks!), our motivation & overall adherence.

Basically...

Less booze = more progress!

My 'Custard Cream Story' πŸ‘‡

Circa 2005 I attempted the low carb Atkins diet, the diet 'fad' of the moment.

By day 5 I felt so sick, drained, hungry & consumed by thoughts of food that I stormed into my local Co-op...

Only to leave armed with a packet of custard creams & then I continued to binge on carby foods for the rest of that week.

In my defence, 20 year-old me didn't know any better

She just wanted to look 'slim' like Jennifer.

Thankfully, these days I know that carbohydrates aren't 'optional'; they're essential when it comes to having the energy & happy hormones I need to live well at 41.

For 2005 Me & still for many women...

Carbohydrates are NOT the reason you can't lose body fat,

But that all-or-nothing mindset you have around them could well beπŸ’œ

It FINALLY happened πŸ‘‡

She was doing a lot right.

She WASN’T lazy, unmotivated or clueless.

But she WAS left confused from trying so hard with so little to show for it.

The problem wasn’t effort.

She just needed that effort rerouted into a more simple structure.

Her results were a long-term healthy lifestyle AND the body confidence she only ever dreamed of 🀩

Maybe there are women out there who are happy doing 'all the right things' every week without their body reflecting that hard work...

BUT if you feel deflated AF putting that graft in,

I don't care if anyone disagrees here

But PB on toast, that handful of nuts, 2 slices of ham, half a can of tuna, one egg on your avocado...

These are the, β€œI’m trying to be healthy” snacks that keep women hungry, craving sugar by 3pm, picking all night & wondering why their body composition never changes.

If you snack like a toddler, you’ll never:
β€’ properly manage your hunger
β€’ keep stable energy levels
β€’ recover well from training
β€’ build visible muscle
β€’ change the way your body actually FEELS underneath the skin (you know, the 'grab test')

At some point, you have to put the big girl pants on & prioritise actual protein portions.

Eat the full pack of ham, the full tin of tuna, a whole chicken breast.

And yes, occasionally neck a protein shake if it helps you hit your targets.

Fat loss isn’t about surviving on tiny beige snacks & fighting hunger all day.

Instead, try fuelling your body like someone who is serious about their fat loss goal AND maintaining their results long term.
