We tend to share this one a couple of times during the year as the darker, wetter, Scottish months approach because Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) can be genuinely debilitating for many people.

The shorter days, darker mornings and reduced sunlight can affect mood, energy levels, motivation and overall wellbeing.

If you find yourself struggling more at this time of year, you’re not alone. ❤️

At DMC Fitness, we know that exercise is about far more than weight loss or building muscle. Maintaining a routine, moving your body and staying connected with others can all become even more important during the months when motivation can be at its lowest.

Our latest blog explores Seasonal Affective Disorder, how it can affect people and ways to look after your wellbeing as the seasons change.

Take care of yourself, keep moving where you can and remember, there’s always support available if you need it. ❤️

Incline Barbell assisted Push Up 09/09/2026

💪 Technique of the week: Incline Barbell-Assisted Push-up

Struggling with traditional push-ups? That’s okay, you don’t have to start on the floor! 👊

The Incline Barbell-Assisted Push-Up is a great way to build the strength and confidence you need to progress towards a full push-up.

🔹 Set a barbell up on a rig at an elevated height
🔹 Keep your body straight and controlled
🔹 Lower your chest towards the bar
🔹 Push yourself away with control

The higher the bar, the easier the movement, so you can gradually lower it as you get stronger.

🏠 But what if you're not at the gym? No problem!

You can create a similar incline using stair steps. The same principle applies, start higher and gradually work your way lower.

It's a simple but effective progression, especially for beginners.

🎥 Watch this week's Technique of the Week to see it in action:
https://youtu.be/QXVo20fg4go

Remember: every movement has a starting point. Start where you are, build your strength, and progress from there.

Maybe you don't have a fitness problem. You might have a movement problem.

Here's a question…

How many hours did you sit yesterday?

Not how long you trained.

Not how many steps your watch says you took.

How long were you actually sitting?

💻 At your desk
🚗 In the car
📞 In meetings
🍽️ At lunch
📺 On the sofa

For many of us, it's 8, 9, 10+ hours.

And here's the uncomfortable reality…

You can train never skip a training session, 3-4 times a week and still spend the vast majority of your waking day being sedentary.

That doesn't mean your workouts aren't important.

They absolutely are.

But if you're serious about staying strong, mobile and capable as you get older, what you do between workouts also matters.

That's why we're talking about it in our latest blog:
https://dmcfitness.co.uk/personal-trainer-blog/how-glasgow-professionals-are-becoming-less-physically-active/

Give it a read, but before you do let's settle something…

How many hours do YOU think you spend sitting on a normal working day?

👇 Drop your honest guess in the comments.

No judgement. Let's see if it is more than you expected when you really think about it.

REAL RESULTS. REAL COMMITMENT.

When Stuart joined DMC Fitness, he wasn't starting from scratch. He already enjoyed running and sport. What he wanted was expert coaching to build strength, add lean muscle, and educate him in how to train smarter.

Inspired by watching his wife's incredible progress (and the fact she could do more press-ups than him!), Stuart decided it was time to see what DMC could do for him.

After discussing his goals, refining his nutrition, and following a progressive training programme, the results speak for themselves. 💪

"The team keeps every session varied, knows exactly how to challenge you, and helps you get the most out of every workout."

If you're ready to get stronger, fitter, and more confident—with a programme built around your needs—we'd love to help you fall in love with fitness.

How good is your balance?

Here's a simple test…

Stand on one leg.

How long can you comfortably hold it?

Balance isn't just something we need when we're walking across an uneven surface or getting up from a chair.

It's a combination of strength, mobility, coordination, stability and control, and it becomes increasingly important as we age.

The interesting thing is that balance can be trained.

So if yours isn't quite what it used to be, that doesn't mean you have to accept it.

We've taken a closer look at why balance matters, what happens to it as we age, and what you can do to improve it.

Dumbbell Shrugs 19/08/2026

Technique of the Week: Dumbbell Shrugs

Want stronger shoulders and a more resilient upper body?

This week's TOTW sees Davie demonstrating the Dumbbell Shrug. It's as simple as it gets but highly effective exercise for developing your upper trapezius muscles and improving shoulder stability.

Why include dumbbell shrugs in your routine?

✅Build stronger upper traps for better posture
✅Improve shoulder and neck stability
✅Support heavier pulling and carrying exercises

Help create a stronger, more balanced upper body

The key is quality over weight: lift your shoulders straight up, pause briefly at the top, and lower under control, and avoid rolling the shoulders.
