EXPENSIVE(ISH) THINGS THAT ARE WORTH EVERY PENNY: HEALTH & FITNESS EDITION 💫

Lmk if you think I’ve missed any 👇🏼

🏋🏼‍♀️ A GYM MEMBERSHIP

And one that you’ll actually go to…

If you’re a train-from-home gal, the money you’d be spending on a membership should be going into kitting out a home gym instead

Resistance bands and 2.5kg dumbbells aren’t going to cut it forever 👀

💁🏼‍♀️ A (BLOODY GOOD) COACH

And £10 apps with minimal contact and chatgpt don’t fall into this category…

I spent years figuring it out myself and made SO many mistakes along the way and my only regret is not hiring a coach sooner

Yes, you can absolutely figure it out yourself. But having someone to take the guesswork out, keep you accountable, teach you want actually matter and help you adjust things?

Worth it’s weight in gold

🚶🏼‍♀️‍➡️A WALKING PAD

I’ve always been a ‘get-outside-and-go-for-a-walk’ kinda gal but I swear my walking pad changed the game

Rainy? Walking pad
Multi-tasking work + steps? Walking pad
Break up long stints of sitting like a prawn? Walking pad

🧦 GOOD QUALITY GYMWEAR

I’ve had a LOT of gymwear in my time and spent an eyewatering sum on it

But the expensive stuff is built to last

Pick stuff you feel good in, that makes you want to train and that you aren’t having to adjust every other minute

(Top tip: scope out sales, TKMaxx + remember quality over quantity)

🍈 A SUPPORTIVE SPORTS BRA

I’m v much a fashion tiddy girlie but even *I* know the importance of a good quality sports bra that supports the girls

And yes, I feel for you gals that are blessed with more ample bosoms having to pay more but I promise it’ll be worth it

👟 SHOES

If you can train in socks for a strength session, sensational!

But the second you start adding cardio, conditioning and running into the mix, you’re going to want to invest

Or at the very least pls stop wearing running trainers for exercises that you’re then working harder to stabilise

Take them off and see how much easier it is when you’re not having to correct your balance every 0.5 seconds

👩🏼‍⚕️ PHYSIO / SPORTS THERAPIST / INJURY PREVENTION

Before you:

a) ignore your niggles and hope they disappear despite

Call me controversial but I don’t think it’s a bad thing to set yourself some guidelines

And just because it didn’t work for Karen in HR, doesn’t automatically mean it’s not going to work for you

I think sometimes we swing so far in the other direction with diet culture that we start believing that ANY sort of structure around food or training is restrictive

But there’s a difference between having a few guidelines that work well for you and having a list of rules you’re terrified to break

A guideline might be:
☑️ I’ll build each meal around a protein source
☑️ I’ll try to get my first session in on a Monday because it sets me up for the week
☑️ If I miss my target on one day, I’ll try not to miss it the next day

And if we’re being real, those things can all be really helpful when you’re literally trying to form new habits and routines

Even more so if you’re in an environment that makes it harder to stick to them

In my humble opinion, they’re the type of things that help you sit in the gorgeous grey area between being so laid back you don’t consistently tick off the habits that get you closer to your goals

And being so strict with rigid rules that you start attaching your worth to whether or not you’ve followed them properly

You’re allowed to have standards for yourself

But you’re also allowed to be human

Find what works for you 💫

Felt sassy, might delete later x

It goes without saying that despite all my moaning I am so eternally grateful for anyone who does support my account and my business 💞💘💕💓

And I’m so grateful I get to do this as my full time job

But sometimes we just need a good vent and to get things off our chests, especially when you’re a self employed girlie running the show by herself💆🏼‍♀️

So I’m doing just that and we’re going back to the drawing board ✍🏼

Ya gal is going to find a way to make content enjoyable so I feel a little less jaded with Insta and take the pressure off

And if you see me posting content with 3 different hair colours and filmed 2 years ago, mind ya damn business 😅

It’s a crying shame for good videos to sat unused just because I don’t look the same 365 days a year

So consider this your reminder to support your mates if they’re going against the grain and escaping the rat race to run their own business

Engage with posts from local independent businesses

Leave reviews for your fave spots

It makes the world of difference, especially in an economy where so many small businesses are having to shut up shop

If you make it all the way through, I hope both sides of your pillow are cool 🫶🏼

look at these strong gals and their strong Bulgarian split squats 🤩🤩🤩

and for a group that has requested core probably every month since the class began, they’re really loving the lil ab finisher 🤥

Some days it’s gorgeous plates of food that are definitely worthy of a photoshoot

Some days it’s raiding the fridge, freezer and larder to chuck together a meal that isn’t winning any awards or appearing on the Michelin guide

But if its a toss up between having a meal that ticks the boxes that aligns with your goals or a fish finger sandwich and crisps because it “goes together more”

I know what I’m gonna recommend

So consider this a friendly reminder that your goals don’t care whether your meal was aesthetically pleasing or not

And sometimes the best meal is the one you cobble together in 10 mins with whatever random s*t you’ve got lying around the house

So chuck it together 🥦🍆🥑🥕🌽

Look, I get it
You’re busy
You don’t need yet *another* thing to do

But if we’re being real here

Are you really trying to tell me you can pour out a saucepan of pasta much fasta (get it) than 11 seconds…

And that’s not even taking into consideration the additional time it takes to clear up and get rid of the extra food you cooked because you portioned out enough to feed the local village

(It’s never less is it x)

But even if you could, realistically, what are you filling those few saved seconds with?

I know we’re in a culture of hustling and optimisation and being on the go go go all the damn time but come on

If taking an extra couple of seconds to weigh out the bulk of your meals is what gets you actually seeing results, surely it’s worth it??

You might think time is money but I guarantee those few minutes across the day is still a hell of a lot cheaper than another supplement, subscription or skinny tea to shift some pounds

And I’m not even sorry for the sass because you needed to hear it x

This girl deserves all her flowers and then some 🌸

I could’ve probably turned this into a 20 slide carousel with an accompanying 5000 word essay but I’m going to let the post do the talking

What I will say though is L is such a perfect example of why knowing what to do is not always the problem

❌ Sometimes you don’t need another workout saved to your phone

❌ You don’t need someone to explain that protein is important or that consistency matters

❌ You don’t need to ask for Chatty G’s advice on the perfect workout split (👀)

You need the structure, accountability and support to keep going when life gets busy, your brain isn’t playing ball or one wobble starts convincing you to sack the whole thing off

It was also made possible because we met her where she was at

No generic step target that was impossible to hit
No double training days
No being completely delusional about what was possible for her

L didn’t lose 10kg because every week was perfect

She lost 10kg because the imperfect weeks stopped becoming the end of the journey

And along the way she also became an absolute weapon because apparently a 110kg squat for 3 and a 62.5kg bench for 3 were needed for good measure

So so proud of this girlie 🥹🌸

Week 2 of the new block is here but this time we left it up to fate 🔮✨

Unfortunately for the girls, fate chose Bulgarian split squats as their focus for this block 😶😬

And let me tell you, our first session out of the four was a toughhhh one

Hot, sweaty and jam packed but the girls absolutely killed it❤️‍🔥

Although fate might not have been on their side with the exercise choice, luckily for them the reps will keep decreasing over the next month so the only way is up…right??💫

I know people bang on about all-or nothing mindsets and what’s cause it until the cows come home…

But I don’t think I’ve heard anyone talking about this one reason why it keeps happening

And I reckon it’s one of the biggest reasons why it keeps happening

You’ve started treating healthy habits and fat loss like they’re the same thing

So the second fat loss isn’t happening…
💬 I’ve already had one biscuit so I may as well finish the pack
💬 well I’ve fu**ed it already so what’s the harm in this
💬 I’ll just start again Monday

Because in your head, if the scales aren’t down, what’s the point?

Except the point was it should never just be about fat loss

✨ Every gym session is still making you stronger
✨ Every balanced meal is still fuelling your body
✨ Every walk is still improving your fitness
✨ Every bit of consistency is still building the version of you who’s able to keep this up for years instead of weeks

You’re still winning, even when you’re not in a calorie deficit

So instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater every time life happens…

Build habits you’d happily keep in January, July and November

Then use a calorie deficit as a tool when fat loss is the goal

Because fat loss should come and go

Your habits shouldn’t

And I promise you that’s how you stop spending year after year feeling like you’re back at square one 🫶🏼

Girlies PLEASE

What in the practicing self-sabotage are you playing at???

Action creates motivation but results also create motivation

And I would bet good money that if you aren’t seeing changes you’re sacking everything off asap rocky

But realistically checking your progress sooner and making adjustments sooner means less wasted time, less disappointment and less chance of you declaring yourself unable to make progress

(Side note - you are fully capable of making progress)

And I’ve also done it myself so I know the vibe

Begrudgingly taking progress photos at the start and hiding them away, refusing to take updated ones in case the comparison doesn’t show the transformation you’re working hard for

Or refusing to weigh yourself because you’ll throw the scales out the window if it even dares to hover on a number higher than you’d like

And I know for some of you it can genuinely be quite a stressful experience

But you have to remember that tracking your progress is literally just collecting information

Information that helps you make better decisions

But if you don’t track in any way, shape or form, how do you not know you’re stuck spinning on a hamster wheel??

Putting in the work and getting nowhere

And let’s be real, even if you are making incredible progress, your brain is suddenly going to become your arch nemesis and convince you otherwise

So sometimes you just need something tangible

And if you’re someone who can’t help but crash out when it comes to these things, I’d highly recommend getting a coach* to give your head a wobble in those moments to stop the self-sabotage taking hold

*luckily for you I am sensational at this 😌💅🏼💁🏼‍♀️
