Pull-ups don’t happen overnight… they happen through consistent progress. 💪

Every exercise in this video has a purpose:
• TRX rows build strength and control.
• Bent-over dumbbell rows develop the muscles needed for pulling.
• Banded pull-ups bridge the gap.
• And eventually… your first pull-up.

There isn’t one “right” place to start. The important thing is starting where you are and progressing from there.

This is just a small selection of the many ways we can build towards a pull-up. With the right coaching and consistency, you’ll be surprised what you’re capable of….

Hi! 👋 If we haven’t met before, or you’ve never trained with me, I thought I’d introduce myself.

I’m Samantha, a personal trainer with over 11 years of experience coaching both groups and one-to-one clients.

I specialise in helping women build strength, improve their fitness, and take back control of their health—whether you’re completely new to exercise or looking to rediscover your confidence.

My coaching is all about meeting you where you are right now. You’ll train in a safe, supportive environment, with every session designed to help you progress week by week at a pace that’s right for you.

If you’ve been thinking about making a start, I’d love to help. 💪

I honestly shocked myself when I put these two photos side by side.

The photo on the left was taken around three years ago. The one on the right was taken this weekend.

Looking back, I can see I was at a fork in the road.

My favourite clothes felt tight and uncomfortable. I woke up feeling tired most mornings. Alcohol and sugary snacks had become daily habits, menopause was throwing its own challenges my way, and arthritis wasn’t helping either. I didn’t feel like the best version of myself.

One day, I decided enough was enough.

I didn’t overhaul my life overnight. I simply chose a different path and kept taking small steps in the right direction.

✔️ I started strength training consistently.
✔️ I ate in a calorie deficit while prioritising protein.
✔️ I stopped drinking alcohol.
✔️ I focused on building habits I could stick to.

Now, at 56, I feel stronger, healthier and more energetic than I have in years. I’m not perfect, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

If you’re feeling like you’re standing at your own fork in the road, know that it’s never too late to change direction. You don’t need to be fit to start—you just need to start.

If you’d like someone to guide you, support you and keep you accountable, I’d love to help. With over 11 years of experience, I work with people of all ages and abilities to build strength, confidence and healthier habits that last.

Your future self will thank you for taking that first step. 💚

Deadlifts aren’t just for gym-goers lifting heavy barbells…

They’re one of the most functional exercises you can do.

A deadlift is simply the movement of safely picking something up from the floor. That could be shopping bags, a suitcase, your grandchild, or a barbell!

The best part? Deadlifts can be adapted for every age, fitness level and ability. Using kettlebells, dumbbells or barbells, we can tailor the movement to suit you.

Benefits include:
💪 Building strength and muscle
🦴 Improving bone health
😊 Better posture and balance
🏡 Making everyday tasks easier
⭐ Building confidence

At SG Personal Training, I’ll teach you to deadlift safely and confidently, whatever your starting point.

What a difference 3 years can make!

In that first photo, I was an active person, training in the gym 4–5 days a week. To be fair, I wasn’t in bad shape at all.

But behind the scenes…

* I was drinking at least a bottle of Prosecco most nights.
* Snacking like a pro.
* Menopausal symptoms were in full flow.
* My self-esteem was low.
* I was tired all the time.
* I didn’t like the rounded, puffy face looking back at me in the mirror.
* My clothes felt too tight.
* My sleep was patchy.
* I felt frustrated and stuck, yet I wasn’t changing the habits I knew weren’t helping.

So, what did I do?

I looked at the crossroads ahead.

Choice 1: Keep doing the same things and accept the same outcome.

Choice 2: Take some uncomfortable steps, commit to the long haul, and create a different outcome.

I chose option 2.

The short version of what I did:

✔️ Believed in myself as a 53year old with a happy healthy future! Not a has been !

✔️ Stopped drinking alcohol overnight.

✔️ Started training with the intention to progress, rather than just showing up and moving.

✔️ Without alcohol, I had more time and energy for planning and preparing my meals.

✔️ Ate 3 balanced meals a day, with smaller portions and 2 snacks (including chocolate!).

✔️ Focused on the long-term goal and didn’t let small setbacks throw me off course.

There was no magic fix, no quick transformation, and no perfect plan.

Just consistent changes, repeated over time.

If you’re feeling stuck and wondering where to start, my inbox is always open. Just send me a DM.

☀️ It’s going to be HOT this week! ☀️

But that doesn’t mean your fitness routine has to stop.

Here are a few simple ways to keep moving while looking after yourself:

✅ Get your workout done early in the day – it makes a huge difference.
✅ Drink plenty of fluids throughout the day.
✅ Consider slowing things down a little.
✅ Swap an intense cardio session for a strength workout or some lighter movement.
✅ Most importantly, be kind to yourself.

Remember, consistency doesn’t mean pushing through at all costs. Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is adapt to the conditions and keep showing up in a way that feels good.

Stay cool, stay safe, and keep moving! 💪☀️
