How many times have you “started properly” this year?

Nobody says this out loud.

Or at least not enough people do.

A lot of people aren’t struggling because they’re lazy.

They’re struggling because they’re absolutely knackered.

They wake up tired.

Need caffeine just to become a functioning human being.

Rush their way through work.

Deal with lifes endless list of jobs, responsibilities and drama.

Then they get home and think:

“I should exercise”
“I should eat better”
“I should be more motivated”

But instead....

They collapse onto the sofa and start ngotiating with a packet of biscuits

And then comes the guilt.

“I’ve got no willpower”
“I need to try harder”
“Why can’t I stick to anything?”

When in reality...

The problem often isn’t motivation.

Thd problem is you’re running on empty.

Think about it.

It’s hard to make good decisions when:

You’ve slept badly
you’re stressed
your energy is low
your brain feels like it’s operating through treacle

Yet most people blame themselves

The fitness industry doesn’t help either.

Because social media is full of people who apparently

wake up at 4am
meditate
journal
cold plunge
train twice a day

and somehow still have the energy to smile while eating overnight oats

Meanwhile you’re just trying to stay awake through a Teams meeting 😄

So here’s a thought.

Maybe you don’t need more discipline
Maybe you need more recovery

Maybe the answer isn’t another diet.

Maybe it’s:

getting to bed earlier
eating proper meals
drinking more water
walking more
slowing down occasionally

Not sexy
Definitely not instagram-worthy

But it works.

Because its hard to build a healthier body when you’re constantly trying to survive the day.

So if you’ve bating yourself up lately...

Give yourself a bit of credit.

Life is demanding.

And before you focus on losing weight, getting fitter or changing your body...

Make sure you’re looking after the person trying to do it.

People can argue over politicians all day long.

I honestly couldn’t care less whether advice comes from the left, the right, the middle, or a bloke dressed as Darth Vader.

If the message is:

👉 eat more real food
👉 eat less ultra-processed rubbish
👉 move your body more
👉 take responsibility for your health

…why is that controversial?

One of the biggest problems today is that people reject information based on who said it rather than whether it’s true.

Health shouldn’t be political.

It shouldn’t matter whose team you’re on.

Because obesity, type 2 diabetes, poor energy, chronic inflammation and declining health don’t care who you voted for.

The uncomfortable truth is that most people already know what healthier living looks like.

More real food.
More movement.
Better sleep.
Less junk.

None of it is revolutionary.

None of it is sexy.

And none of it makes giant corporations much money.

Have we reached a point where people are rejecting common-sense health advice simply because they don’t like who’s delivering the message?

Most people don’t need another diet.

They don’t need another detox.
Another challenge.
Another meal plan downloaded with good intentions and forgotten by Thursday.

What they really want is to feel better.

To wake up with more energy.
To feel comfortable in their own skin.
To stop avoiding photos.
To stop feeling frustrated every time they catch their reflection.

Because after a while, it stops being about weight.

It becomes about confidence.

It becomes about feeling like you’ve lost a bit of yourself somewhere along the way.

And truthfully…

Most people don’t need more willpower.

They need:

support
structure
consistency
and a plan that fits around real life

That’s where lasting change happens.

Not through punishment.

Not through perfection.

Just small actions repeated often enough that they become part of who you are.

If you’re reading this thinking:

“Yeah… I’m tired of feeling like this.”

Then maybe it’s time to stop putting yourself at the bottom of the list.
