Sometimes a tiny cue completely changes how an exercise feels.
Thatβs because Pilates is not just about movement.
Itβs about:
π Awareness
π Control
π Alignment
π Coordination
π Precision
Good cueing helps people to connect with the right muscles and understand movement more deeply.
I've felt it myself when I've been attending classes, and one simple cue has changed the whole movement for me.
Whatβs the best piece of movement advice youβve ever been given?

Pilates classes do not have to feel intimidating. π«£
πͺ Yes, we work hard.
π Yes, technique matters.
π But classes should also feel welcoming and enjoyable.
One of my favourite things is hearing people laugh during class while still moving well and challenging themselves. Most of the time that's at my bad jokes!
Movement should feel positive, not punishing.
What helps you feel comfortable when trying a new class?

Some very lucky 1:1 clients got to meet the newest member of the SA Pilates team today πΎ
My new pup took his role very seriously, spending most of the day asleep by the studio window and providing plenty of entertainment for everyone! π€£
Meanwhile, my oldest supervised proceedings from a safe distance, as only a senior team member can.
Don't worry if dogs aren't your thing. Both dogs are experts at staying out of the way, and most of the time, you'll not even realise they're even there. Now I just have to train the kids to do the same! π€£
So if you've ever wanted personalised Pilates coaching, movement tailored to your body, and the occasional bonus puppy cuddle, now might be the perfect time to book a 1:1! π

"I can do the exercise" and "I can do the exercise well" are not the same thing.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Pilates is that progress means moving on to harder and harder exercises.
Joseph Pilates' original repertoire includes some incredibly challenging movements. But those exercises were never the goal.
They are the expression of the fundamentals.
β‘οΈ A Jack Knife isn't just about getting your legs overhead.
β‘οΈ A Teaser isn't just about balancing on your sit bones.
β‘οΈ A Roll Over isn't just about touching your toes to the floor.
The real challenge is maintaining control, alignment, breathing, stability, and awareness throughout the movement.
I'd rather see someone perform a simple exercise with precision and control than a complex exercise with momentum and compensation.
β¨οΈ One of the things I love most in class is looking around the room and seeing everyone working at different levels. β¨οΈ
Some people are taking the full progression. Others are choosing a modification. Some are focusing on mobility, while others are building strength.
And that's exactly as it should be.
Pilates isn't about keeping up with the person on the mat next to you. It's about respecting your body, your space, and your current abilities on that day.
The foundations matter.
Every. Single. Time.
