Another week. Getting stuff done. Doing stuff.

There is a time and a place for before and after photos, for some.

But for many of the people who come to me, they don’t hold much relevance and aren’t appropriate.

There is nothing wrong with have aesthetic goals. But they are rarely the only goal someone has. And to me, requesting before and after photos for everyone assumes that their is a certain body type everyone should be striving, is able to strive for, they are comfortable doing so, it’s good for their mental health to do so, and that there is an after, rather than this journey being ongoing.

There are so many other things I’d rather measure with my clients;
Do they move better in day to day life?
Is getting up the stairs less of a challenge?
Can they stand up off the floor unaided?
Has their running improved?
Can they lift more?
Are they more confident?
Do they have more energy?

No coach should ever force before and after photos on you. And if they do, drop me a message!

That’s better.

Is it worth doing 10 - 15 minute workouts?

YES!

Some movement is always better than no movement. It’s not a magic wand, but if the alternative is to do nothing then…

I’m not saying go completely mad over Christmas. It’s always a mistake, and you end up promising yourself that you’ll be a completely new person in January and that you’ll overhaul you’re life entirely and then fail at that, write off making any changes at all and be in a worse position than you are now.

I’ll still workout but probably not as much. I’ll definitely be digging into the leftovers, a cheeseboard and some extra sweet treats. But I won’t be throwing my usual day to day approach completely out of the window. It never makes me feel good if I do, not really. Not for multiple days on the bounce.

So enjoy. Have those foods we don’t normally have the rest of the year. Do NOT feel guilty. Keep some normal routine if that makes you feel good. Be kind to yourself. And remember, it’s 3.85% of your entire year.

This statistic shocked me. And it’s preventable.

Through strength, mobility, reaction and balance training, as well as nutrition, falls can be prevented. Breaks when you do fall can be prevented.

To get a basic plan of how to structure workouts to include these elements message me the word “hip” and I’ll ping it over.

Anyone saying this to you doesn’t get it. Life is way more complex than this, especially when you’re juggling everything life throws at you. And let’s be honest, women experience the burden of the running of day to day life, especially at this time of year, at the expense of prioritising themselves.

So no, we don’t all have the same 24 hours. And it’s my job to take thinking about your fitness and nutrition off your daily to do list, do the thinking for you, and make it work WITH your life and not AGAINST it. Because YOU are incredibly important too.
