Can we please have some more 9:30am classes…the newer 9:15am time just doesn’t work with the school run 😔 Thanks.
To the person who found my Beats headphones today and handed them in! Thank you 🙏 🙏🙏
Have any iPhones been handed in from last night?
I’ve been the last two days and I must say it was amazing to be back. Whole gym was spotless and very Covid friendly and it was just lovely to exercise and see the friendly faces. ❤️
What’s your opening hours? The website says 24 hours , is that correct? Thanks

At PureGym we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a fit and healthy lifestyle. So we have made it simple, affordable & convenient!

Rise and Shine

Happy Pride Month 🏳️‍🌈

Pride is a time for the LGBTQ+ community and allies to come together and celebrate acceptance, equality and love. It’s a time to amplify the voices of the LGBTQ+ community and promote inclusivity for all.

Small gestures can make big differences, and this is symbolic of what we believe in at PureGym: feeling free to be whoever you are and accepting each other’s differences. We welcome everybody.

That’s why this Pride Month, together with our LGBTQ+ Employee Network Group, we have created a simple guide on fostering mental wellbeing and tips to become a better ally. This forms part of our 2022 Equality Action Plan and is supported by a number of important initiatives throughout the year to strengthen our commitment to make our workplace and gyms truly inclusive for LGBTQ+ people.

Whether you identify as LGBTQ+ yourself, love someone who does, want to become a better ally or just want to learn more, we hope our Roadmap to Rise and Shine will help to raise awareness and promote a more inclusive future for all.

There are a lot of different calorie calculators out there – this one being no different. Whatever the number that comes out the other end is only a guide for you to start eating right for your goals. In this case, by doing the equation above, you will get your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) which ultimately means ‘how many calories you’d burn if you lay in bed all day’ and essentially is the minimum amount of calories your essential organs needs alongside basic movement like blinking and breathing, all of which burns calories. On top of this, we need to consider how much we move, walk, exercise and anything else relating to moving – this could be called our activity factor which is used on a scale of 1.1 - 1.9 typically. Typically, you would define 1.1 as being very sedentary – someone who sits a lot, not an active lifestyle or job and really doesn’t burn many calories on top of their BMR. On the other side of the scale, you will not find many people who are classed as a 1.9 but this person would probably be your typical athlete who trains for multiple hours at high intensities. As an example, a typical person that works 9-5 at a desk and only does some light walking/cleaning each day could be classed as a 1.25.

If your goal is weight loss, it may make sense to underestimate your activity factor and vice versa for weight gain. People typically underestimate how inactive they are!

Long story short – Take your BW in KG and multiply accordingly. Once you have that number, multiply it by your relevant activity factor.

Also note, the final number is your maintenance calories, not weight loss/weight gain.

That then leaves exercises calories to add in but that’s a post for another day!

Ramadan is essentially not eating/drinking in daylight hours till sunset to sunrise. It is a big change for the body and your sleep pattern will change. Understand and respect the change and try to exert less energy through the day. It is important to rest and refuel in the night. Here are some top tips courtesy of Birmingham Maypole AGM Mohsin Hussain.

5 Top Tips:
1. Lower the weight – there’s no need to put the body under unnecessary strain by lifting heavy this month
2. Adjust intensity of workout – during this month, when you workout maybe have longer rest periods and nothing too intense as you cannot stay hydrated
3. Think about what time to train works for you – everybody is different and has different work/life patterns so think about changing when you workout to closer or just after iftar time. Maybe in the night before Suhoor. As the day goes on your energy levels may drop. Be mindful.
4. Focus on mind muscle connection – building this mind muscle connection will help with preserving muscle and is a good way to keep the workout intense without busting a gut. It will also help your workouts post Ramadan.
5. Focus on your breath – most underrated and underused asset is your breath. During this month if you do one thing in your workouts then do this. Focus on the inhale on the concentric and exhale on the eccentric portions of the movement and watch your workouts and lifts transform.
