Nutritious, versatile, and delicious, avocados have become a kitchen staple in many homes around the world.

Extremely popular in the health and wellness world, they’re highly nutritious and have been linked to several health benefits.

πŸ’š Avocados are rich in many nutrients, including fibre, healthy fats, vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin B6, potassium, magnesium, and folate. Enjoying them regularly could help improve overall diet quality.

πŸ’š They're rich in fibre, which is essential for a healthy digestive system. Some evidence suggests that consuming avocados may benefit the health of the gut by improving bacterial diversity and reducing f***l bile acid concentration.

πŸ’š They may help increase levels of heart-protective HDL cholesterol and decrease levels of oxidized LDL cholesterol, a type of cholesterol that’s significantly associated with atherosclerosis, or the accumulation of plaque along artery walls

πŸ’š Avocados are an excellent source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds like vitamin C, vitamin E, and the carotenoid lutein.

πŸ’š During pregnancy and breastfeeding, your need for many nutrients significantly increases. Enjoying avocados may be a smart way to get enough of certain vitamins and minerals like folate, potassium, vitamin C, and vitamin B6.

Eating avocados regularly may benefit health in several ways, including protecting against heart disease, improving overall diet quality, improving satiety, and promoting gut health.

Plus, they’re versatile and delicious.

Mushrooms are widely known for their great taste and amazing health benefits.

Packed with a ton of essential vitamins and minerals, they make for an excellent addition to your diet, adding flavour to many different recipes.

πŸ’š The anti-inflammatory effect of mushrooms has been shown to greatly improve the efficiency of the immune system. Research has found that mushrooms help stimulate microphages in the immune system, enhancing its ability to defeat foreign bodies

πŸ’š Mushrooms also contain B vitamins as well as a powerful antioxidant called selenium, which helps support the immune system and prevent damage to cells and tissues.

πŸ’š Compounds in mushrooms, including beta glucan, appear to act as prebiotics, fuelling the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and promoting a favourable gut environment

πŸ’š They have been shown to have some properties which may help lower cholesterol and prevent cells from sticking to blood vessel walls and forming plaque build-up.

πŸ’š Certain foods rich in polyphenols, like mushrooms, may be protective against cognitive decline in older adults.

Wild mushrooms can make a tasty dish, but the toxins in some varieties can trigger fatal health issues.

To avoid these dangers, only consume mushrooms from a reliable source.

Whilst the health effects of dietary fat can be controversial, most experts agree that olive oil, especially extra virgin, can be extremely beneficial to your health.

Here are some reasons why you should consider making olive oil your oil of choice.

πŸ’š Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated oleic acid. This fatty
acid is believed to have many beneficial effects and is a healthy choice for cooking.

πŸ’š It contains nutrients that fight inflammation. These include oleic acid as well as the antioxidant oleocanthal, which has been shown to work similarly to an anti-inflammatory drugs.

πŸ’š Extra virgin olive oil is loaded with antioxidants, some of which have powerful biological effects.

πŸ’š Extra virgin olive oil has numerous benefits for heart health. It lowers blood pressure, protects β€œbad” LDL cholesterol particles from oxidation and improves the function of blood vessels.

πŸ’š Several large studies demonstrate that people who consume olive oil have a much lower risk of stroke, the second biggest killer in developed countries.

Just remember, whilst olive oil may be one of the healthiest fats on the planet, it is very calorie dense and adding too much to your foods can be detrimental.

Green tea is often touted as one of the healthiest beverages on the planet.

Here are some reasons why you should put the kettle on.

πŸ’š It's loaded with polyphenol antioxidants, including a catechin called EGCG. These antioxidants can have various beneficial effects on health.

πŸ’š Green tea contains less caffeine than coffee but enough to produce an effect. It also contains the amino acid L-theanine, which can work synergistically with caffeine to improve brain function.

πŸ’š The bioactive compounds in green tea can have various protective effects on the brain. They may reduce the risk of dementia, a common neurodegenerative disorder in older adults.

πŸ’š It may lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol, as well as protect the LDL particles from oxidation. Studies show that people who drink green tea have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

πŸ’š Some controlled studies show that green tea may cause mild reductions in blood sugar levels. It may also lower the risk of type 2 diabetes.

To help you feel better and lower your risk of chronic diseases, you may want to consider making green tea a regular part of your life.

02/04/2022

Ramadan Mubarak to all of our members and their families who are celebrating.

If you are observing Ramadan, here are 3 tips to keep you on track with your fitness journey.

1. Have a plan and manage your time!
This sounds simple, but can be a tricky first hurdle when trying to plan your workouts. Do you train just before you break your fast, or do you train at night? There's no right answer, just whichever works for you!

2. Quick training sessions.
Plan 30 minute workouts with a fairly high intensity to minimise any strength or muscle loss, while adding to the stress of fasting with long drawn out high volume training sessions.

3. Use this time as a maintenance phase.
Don't opt for any personal bests, or lose X amount of body fat, or gain X amount of muscle tissue as this will be challenging with less nutrients. Just maintain your current fitness levels, and get back to your long term goals in a month!

Have a chat to one of our trainers if you need any further help during this time or any.
