💎We're continuing our special series celebrating the incredible teachers who make Barefoot Studio what it is! Recognizing how long they've been teaching, and honoring the years they've been part of the Barefoot community as both students & teachers 💚

🤎Today we are spotlighting Lindsay!

✏ As a student, she has taken 202 classes at Barefoot!
✏ As a teacher, she has taught 942 classes at Barefoot!

"I have been teaching yoga for 12 years, I started teaching because my precious teacher, Breezy, encouraged me to do so. I was a student for 5 years before becoming a teacher.

What a journey it has been! When I think back to my teaching after first been trained to today I am reminded that the only way “to it” is “through it.”

I love that yoga almost mandates an intimate connection with my body. At first, I started doing yoga to look like a yogi. I wanted to get into the cool poses and wear the title of yoga practitioner. But as we say, “at first you start doing yoga, then at some point yoga does you.”

My intentions have changed over the years. I saw the hollowness of my initial motive and I eventually had to get honest with myself. My practice began to become authentic and imperfect and that is when I really met myself on my mat. Now I enjoy being curious about what I will find when i come to class :) '

👣 Lindsay teaches twice on Thursdays:
6 am Sunrise Yoga + 12 pm All Levels Flow

We’re continuing our special series celebrating the incredible teachers who make Barefoot Studio what it is! 💛

✨Today we are celebrating Becca!
📌 As a student, Becca has taken 477 classes since 2013!
📌 As a teacher, Becca has taught 651 classes since 2017!

“I had just moved back to Little Rock after college & been hired for my first real job & was not managing my stress very well. I was looking for an outlet, something or somewhere that I could find myself in. A friend of mine suggested that I try out a Hot Vinyasa Vibes Friday night class at Barefoot, and I thought huh, yoga? The only time I had ever “practiced” yoga was at the HYPR in Fayetteville (student gym) & let’s just say I left there w more questions than answers. But, I figured I would give it another shot & whew, am I glad I did! That first class was a combination of confusion from not knowing what I was doing, excitement from the movement & music and while I didnt know anyone there, I still felt like I was supposed to be there. I never forgot that experience & began making the Friday Hot class my weekly ritual. I began to make wonderful friends & bring my friends to class, so Barefoot just began to feel like home.

Fast forward to 2017, a lot of things were happening in my life that made me feel out of control. Barefoot was a safehaven for me. I’m not sure what sparked the idea to want to start to teach yoga, but I think it stemmed from wanting to be a part of what had given me such an amazing outlet.

I began teaching the Beg/Interm class at shortly after teacher training. That was such a joy, it helped me learn who I was as a teacher & to get to know so many wonderful souls.

I started teaching Hot Yoga, even though the thought intimidated me greatly at the time, and I am so glad that I did. I love to teach Hot Yoga because it gives me an outlet to challenge myself as well as the feeling of truly wringing out all of the stress from my day. Being able to share that experience w all of the lovely souls at Barefoot is one of my greatest joys & I’m so thankful for the opportunity to teach & be a part of this yoga family.”

📲 Becca teaches Hot Power Yoga on Wed 5:30pm & Sat 10am!

💛Today, we honor Juneteenth, a day that commemorates freedom, resilience, and the enduring pursuit of justice. We are honored to share a reflection from writer, educator, and yoga student, Rachel 💛

Juneteenth

I’ve been thinking the past few days about the black Texans who first had cause to celebrate June nineteenth. These were the descendants of the calamitous trafficking of humans to this new world, the surviving lineage of the mass killing of millions of African people in the Middle Passage. I do not presume to understand the abyss of the horrors they endured nor the enormity of the might that sustained them. But history and wisdom teach me that their ancestors’ survival, first on the angry shores of Virginia, then the fetid slave markets of Charleston and New Orleans, to the loamy soil of Texas was not by chance.

If there is any message for us, their posterity, in this - and I believe our ancestors long to speak to us - if we would only listen - the one I hear today is this: Live. Because they did not.

Live because they did.

I do not know how that translates for you. Today, for me, it means making the foods my grandmothers taught me using recipes kept only in their hearts, loving - loudly and with every breath of my being - the people I hold most dear, and watching the world’s first Black independent republic play the country with the largest Black population outside of Africa in the World Cup - reveling in the joy and expanse that is this beautiful diaspora.

Because here is the secret: We were not meant to survive, and yet here we are.

We were not meant to survive, and yet here we are.

We were not meant to survive, and yet here you are.

Thank you, 🤎
