Please remind your young people about the dangers of open water

Neighbourhood officers from Beaconsfield responded to calls from members of the public following reports of teenagers swimming in the Jubilee river, Dorney.

Suitable advice was given and patrols will be stepped up during our ASB week and the hot weather.

Please remember Unpredictable water conditions ; Unlike swimming pools, open water environments are subject to natural elements that can change rapidly.
Factors such as wind, weather changes, and underwater currents can significantly alter conditions without warning.
This unpredictability can lead to dangerous situations for swimmers.

Drowning risks: Drowning is a significant danger in open water, with many incidents occurring due to fatigue, cramps, or being swept away by currents.

Infection risks; Open water contains bacteria and pathogens, increasing the risk of infections.

Limited Visibility: Open water often has poor visibility due to murky conditions or underwater obstacles, making it difficult to see potential hazards such as rocks, debris or aquatic plants.
This can also hinder rescuers from locating swimmers in distress.

Please enjoy yourselves, but only swim in controlled areas and keep yourselves safe.
