New layout. What do you make of it?

The floor’s had a proper rework, new zones, new flow, some kit in different places.

One review. From Kate, who's been training with us for nearly a year.

"I've been training at FitLab for nearly a year now, and I honestly don't recognise some of the negative reviews.

For me, it's by far the best gym in Worthing.

It's great value for money, in a really convenient location, and opens early enough that I can get my training done before work.

The gym is always clean (probably one of the cleanest gyms I've trained in), the equipment is well looked after, there's a good range of cardio machines, and the free weights area has everything I need.

The staff have always been friendly whenever I've spoken to them. It's never too busy either. Everyone keeps themselves to themselves, no large groups hogging equipment.

Can pretty much use any of the equipment whenever I need it.

My only suggestion would be to stay open a little later on Saturdays."

Thanks Kate. Genuinely. The Saturday hours point is fair, and something we'll take a proper look at.

If you've been on the fence about joining, this is the kind of gym we're trying to be.

Upstairs from the gym floor. Quiet during the day. Loud most nights.

This is FightLab. Proper boxing, in a proper room, with proper coaches.

Adults and juniors. Beginners who've never thrown a punch and fighters who've done it a hundred times. Nobody gets in your way. Nobody makes you feel like you shouldn't be here.

If you've been curious about boxing but haven't found the right room to start, this is it.

Fighter strong.

Hammer Strength Chest Press. Chest, front delts, triceps.

One of the most underrated machines on the floor. People walk past it because it looks more complicated than it is.

What it does. A plate-loaded chest press with independent arms, so each side works on its own. That means your stronger side can’t take over from your weaker one, which makes it brilliant for evening out imbalances alongside a bench press.

How to set up.
· Seat height so the handles line up with your mid-chest at the start position, not your collarbone
· Feet flat on the floor, back and shoulders in contact with the pad
· Grip firm but not white-knuckle
· Load one plate at a time on each side to start
What to feel. The pressure should sit across the middle of your chest. If it creeps into your shoulders or neck, the seat is almost always too low.

Common mistakes.
· Seat too low, so you press upward instead of forward
· Locking the elbows out hard at the top of every rep
· Letting the elbows flare too wide (adds strain on the shoulder joint)
· Loading uneven weight side to side

A good starting point. Three sets of 10 to 12 at a weight you could do 15 with. Progress from there.

Every kind of strong.

ATX Leverage Squat. Legs, glutes, quads.

One of the most underrated pieces of leg kit on the floor. A much friendlier place to start heavy leg work than the barbell rack and this machine actually does two completely different things. More on that next week.

What it does.
Loads your legs through a squat pattern without loading your spine. Brilliant if you’re new to squatting, coming back from an injury, or want to hit legs hard without the barbell setup. Also a favourite of anyone with a long torso or lower back concerns.

How to set up.
· Shoulders under the pads, in contact throughout the movement

· Feet on the platform at roughly hip-width

· Toes pointing slightly out, not straight ahead

· Chest up, core braced before you unrack

· Load one plate at a time on each side to start

What to feel. The work should sit in your quads and glutes. If your lower back is fatiguing before your legs, something’s off in the setup.

Common mistakes.
· Feet too far forward or too far back on the platform

· Knees caving inward on the way down
· Bouncing at the bottom of the rep instead of pausing briefly

· Loading it heavy before you’ve grooved the movement

A good starting point. Three sets of eight to twelve, on a weight you could do fifteen with. Progress from there.

The 6kg dumbbell doesn't get the highlight reels.

It doesn't need to. It's the one being picked up by the first-time mum, the grandad who joined last month, the runner working on grip, the fighter in a deload week. Same dumbbell. Different reasons. All strong.

Every kind of strong isn't a slogan. It's a room. This one.

Every kind of strong.

Two ways this weekend goes.

Option A: sofa, pint, roast, back on the floor Monday.Option B: gym Saturday, sofa Saturday night, roast Sunday, back on the floor Monday feeling like a legend.

No wrong answers. But we open early on Saturday, just in case.

Every kind of strong.

No joining fee this summer.

Here's what you get.

Over 250 pieces of equipment. More than any gym in the area.

Free weights. Racks. Cardio. Functional. Cables. Plate-loaded. All of it, all under one roof.

A room where grandads train alongside first-time mums. Where fighters lift next to runners. Where the first-timer and the 5am regular use the same rack an hour apart.

Boxing at FightLab and CrossFit at XLAB available on separate memberships when you're ready for them. But the main gym alone is more than most people ever need.

Ends 31 August.

Walk in. Or DM us.

Every kind of strong.
